DV from Mac to PC

Post by Otobe » Wed Apr 27, 2005 7:31 pm

I have some footage that I imported from a DV camera using iMovie. I transfered the files from the Mac to my PC via an external firewire drive. If the footage is DV I thought I should be able to play it back on my PC. Everything I try to open the files in tells me that I don't have the propper codec to play the files. Is there anything that I can do to get my PC to be able to read these files?

What are you using to open/play the files?

You could copy from the camcorder directly to the PC over Firewire and bypass the Mac and iMovie. WMM2 (WinXP) should be able to do it if you don't have another NLE.

iMovie's captured .dv files are not standard DV files, and can only be read by iMovie or QuickTime on the Mac (to the best of my knowledge, QT for Windows might be able to read them). You will need to convert them to a standard DV file (drop onto the timeline in iMovie and Export as Full Quality DV, or use QT Pro) before you can use it on the PC.

Like the others have suggested, if you want to edit on the PC, you should be capturing on the PC. It's a lot less hastle.
