!!Escape from mainstream songs!!
Just a couple of suggestions of not so well known songs.
If you want to go hard and crazy as hell:
Candiria: Blood
starts with powerful drums and just goes nutz from there. Massive vocal, in the same vein as Mudvayne. The middle of the song would be great for a stand off scene say with gundam wing or with trigun. the end would be great with hero walk away.
Funny yet energetic:
Fight Club: Spread Love
(Note that Fight Club is the name of the band as I understand, not from the movie) If you like house music or just straight techno for your amvs this is up your alley. Big bass. Can go for a humerous angle on this because the lyical part goes as such
"Im here to spread love, all over the world" could be great with DBZ with vilian(take your pick from the thousands) destroying parts of earth. Or say with Spriggan as hes fighting off his attackers.
All for now, maybe more to come if Im any help.
hope these do!

This is the end result of when you have more anime fans who aren't music buffs as there are audiophiles who also like anime.
The best solution is to widen everyone's pallet and TURN OFF THE DAMN RADIO! If you really want to find a stand out song, you got to listen to complete albums by different bands to get some excellent material.
If I didn't say that the new NIN album has some very funky upbeat sounds and MORE than just "Hand that Feeds", I bet no one here would make AMVs using the other new songs on the album.
Just a hunch.

lol, your making this sound like an examination of some disease. I don't think its that serious. Im just sharing my opinion. Yeah it does get pretty terrible when you search for one linkin park song and see 400 results, but hey, 400 amv creators had a reason to use that linkin park song. Guess they'll have to rely on us to help broaden their horizons. P.S. no you guys don't have too, just be listening for other things. When you ask for advice about what song to use with such and such with some theme, be daring, get away from the popular. Sure you may not get the top hits, but you might hit gold and start a whole new trend. Well, it may not be that glamorus, but people will definitly appreciate such efforts. Good hunting to you all!

Oh no need to end the topic right here and now, lad! I'd say this is worthy of a good discussion.
You see, I consider myself, and this may be my ego talking but I still believe this to be true, that I am not like most of the others on the forums. Most of the people I meet around here, as far as I can tell, are either high school age or slightly older, say college freshmen. I, on the other hand, am 22 years of age and consider myself an anime scholar of sorts.
My fascination with anime has taken me to find out more about Japan's history, customs, art & architecture, fads, toys, foods, manga, anime (natch), and of course the weird things that could ONLY come from Japan. I look for beyond the mainstream anime titles that come out in the states and look too the classics, the relatively unknown, and even the underground! Since getting into anime, manga, and Japanese culture some, oh what is it now? Almost 10 years now?... Anyway, the point is that I feel I have picked up a good deal of information in my research, and I would love nothing more than to spread this knowledge which is not always accessible to others (such as info from out of print books I've collected) to help them learn and appreciate anime more.
Why is it important now? Because with the constant infusion of new anime and manga (more so than there ever was before), I feel that people get caught up in certain anime and manga and this runs the risk of treating it like a fad, unless they get a full immersion into different styles, movies, TV shows, and then some to get a fuller, wider anime experience.
What better way to get a good experience than through Anime Music Videos? One of the most perfect displays of anime fandom since the early 90's, it has come a long way from back when it involved two VCRs and an audio track. This freedom of video creation often gives rise to repeat performances that get tiresome and boring. See DBZ and Linkin Park videos for example. I do not doubt that there are some good DBZ and Linkin Park videos, but the sheer quantity of them all obscures the good ones and makes finding them similar to searching for a needle in a haystack.
Now that I've migrated for a time here to the sluggish, but interesting, AMV suggestion board, I am trying to spread some ideas of mine that I, unfortunately, haven't the time or ability to put into fruition. In a neighboring thread, I suggested putting "Blue Submarine No. 6" to the new song from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy soundtrack: "So Long and Thanks for all the Fish".
Another thread suggested the Eagle's "Journey of the Sorcerer" to "Full Metal Alchemist". (This is in fact, another Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy reference since that song is technically also the serie's theme song, but very few people actually know this) Sure that makes me seem biased towards Hitchhiker's, but that's where my mind is now, thanks to seeing the movie last weekend. (Which was a good watch too) Come this weekend, something else is going to influence me and put my mind on another track, but writing down the ideas here never hurts, especially since I can't quite do these vids myself...
...yet!
There are so many vids I'd love to see, but sometimes when searching for something in the AMV database, I am somewhat dissapointed by the lack of variety in different music. Unless you know what to search for, you may not find the diamond in the rough.
You know, I really should see about writing columns for anime magazines. I think I might be quite good at it, perhaps?

If y'all come over to the music forum, you'll find a bunch of creators who dislike mainstream music and are actually doing something about it. My tastes and the Globocide folks' may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if people care about music -- whether altie, punk, rap, metal, or whatever -- they tend to post in General Music.
wrt OP:
I can't believe somebody actually suggested Candiria. Sure, they rock, but their music is almost too damn complicated to edit to (though there is a Dysrhythmia vid out there) -- or is their post-van-crsh stuff substantially less challenging to listen to? That'd be a pity.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

I don't want to challenge your knowledge of anime man. I myself, college guy, 21 am a big fan of importing anime when I can. I have a sister in canada at a noteworthy art college who helps hook me up with new titles all the time. I wasn't disagreeing with you about how many titles and alot of music is very overused. Drives me nutz. Lots of credit to amvs, they can be damn amazing, or they can be sheer crap. All of it though are the efforts of people who want to create their own idea. Man, we are on the same side about this discussion.
I'd love to see someone take on a challenge like I suggested Kai, hell thats why This is just a suggestions board, not a do it or die thing. and theres no reason to talk like you did to me.
Yeah Otakuman, lets keep this up. This is a big problem and it can kill off interest in amvs if everyone just keeps at the same music. Got to be part of the solution and keep advicing on new songs/animes to be used.
!!WARNING PUT DOWN THE MAINSTREAM!!AND KEEP AWAY FROM THE CHILDREN!!WILL BE THEIR POISION!!
Can't wait to hear back from yah man, throw your ideas in too. I'd love to hear about new animes as well too, may of not heard of em.
Til then, be sure to lock the medicine cabnet and keep poisions out of reach.

I am right here so you can just say, I can't beleive you suggested that song! Damn right it would be complicating, hell that would make it even cooler if someone could invest that kind of time. Best part though, its never been used!I can't believe somebody actually suggested Candiria.

Okay, I must admit that I am a little confused. Did I accidentally insult you or are you agreeing with me on keeping the discussion alive?
If I insulted you, I apologize for that since sometimes I can go on rants in general that aren't aimed at anybody in particular (Most of the time! I can rant about that bastard Jack Thompson all day!). However, if you felt some harsh stuff was aimed at you, then I want to let you know that it was not intended for you. It might have come out that way by accident since it seemed like you were ready to end the discussion on this topic after your second post in this thread. I must have misread it, and therefore... my bad.
I do like a good challenge to the typical conventions in the effort to make things more interesting. Case in point, making better AMVs through good writing and ranting and also enlightenment. It's kinda what I'm about more or less.
Anyway, the trick I see now is trying to get out the lesser known bands and the lesser known, but good, songs that others might not use. I also think that Linkin Park's careers should have died a long time ago, along with a couple of others. The new NIN album? Not bad! Could do some good stuff with it.
Alright, enough talk out of me. Let's see who else posts here!

It maybe too soon and it will end up getting overused in the end, but I can't wait to see what will be done with System of a Down's new album. Their single B.Y.O.B. is damn amazing. Although it may anger some people to use that particular song, reason being it can be viewed as taking away from the message of the song, it is still great and can be used in alot of animes, both fun and violent at the same time, great fight scenes and changing beats will keep the video going good. Song will promp as you enter website http://www.systemofadown.com/

'_'30 MOST USED MUSICAL ARTISTS
Here are the 30 musical artists most likely to appear in an anime music video (or most over-used musical artists, depending on how you look at it...)
Count - Artist
3575 - Linkin Park
1122 - Evanescence
752 - System of a Down
Anyway.
Ahem. We need some Dispatch videos. They have a weird pace and an acoustic style, and they are pretty damn awesome. I suggest someone use Open Up to something like Outlaw Star. It can be done with a bit of imagination and some work... but so can anything in the AMV world.
