Sorry about the crack at you in the Full Metal Alchemist thread. I thought you might have been a troll or something that was looking to cause flames. Besides, I wasn't so much upset at you as I was at the fact that other people seem to nitpick at comments like that as opposed to what they should REALLY do when there's a comment like that, and ignore it and go on the really good ideas.

In a perfect world, when someone makes a suggestion like that in earnest (that suggestion being one that to someone in the know is almost considered an insult) it is ignored, leaving the people's attention to comment and appreciate the suggestions that are good. Unfortunately, it tends to bring the house down on top of the poor newb.

Shame really. Scares lots of people away from places.

Anyway, tbe link provided above should help. In short, you need two things:

One, a good source of anime, preferably in the form of an UNsubtitled DVD source. Subtitles in the AMV that are NOT made by you often look bad. REALLY bad, and often DETRACT from the goodness of the vid.

Second, you need the software, and THIS is where you really have your flexibility. There are various different software from uber-expensive Adobe software, to cheap freebies like Windows Movie Maker, but likewise, you often get what you pay for, if you know what I mean.

It'll take some experimentation and some getting used to, but I think you'll work out alright.

Oh yes, word of advice... ditch any l33t speak and any verbal shortcuts IMMEDIATELY. NOBODY will ever take you seriously if you use "plz", "u", "2" or any "Text-message" looking words. It drives people mad and gives you an air of "newb". We want to get rid of that air quickly!

Finally, I noticed you double-posted this which is a nasty no-no. Of course, if that was an accident, I can see how it'd be a pain since nobody can EDIT these blasted posts! I swear, I leave out one important tidbit and I'm forced to do ANOTHER post to add it in. And yet, to do that, I'd need to do a double-post in the same thread, and that just looks bad. This enforces the waiting game, and thus I have to play the cards I am dealt with.

AHEM! Excuse me. I often go on longer tangents than I need to. Bad habit of mine, really. Anyway, this and the usual forum guidelines will get you into the swing of things in no time. Especially around here.

Frankly, I myself am discovering that AMV Suggestions is sort of a war-ground between the anime fans and the music fans. The anime fans know lots of great anime series, but have a limited taste or selection of music. Whereas the music fans practically have an entire symphonic library within their pinky finger, but only know a select few, but REALLY good, anime.

Because of this dilemma, this is why an AMV Suggestion forum is REQUIRED to get these two demographics together to meet and exchange ideas. Unfortunately, people are often shocked at the common re-occurence of the same freaking suggestions often made by different people. "Oh! Let's put this relatively unused song to DBZ, an anime that's been used THOUSANDS of times (really!)". This is then counter-pointed by the anime fans who often bring up, "How about Petite Princess Yucie (new anime release here) to Linkin Park (which is now the number one over-used band in all of a-m-v.org!)".

However, dispite some repetition, there are still the strokes of genius that give rise to inspiration and total overwhelming awe. The videos made from these ideas are so fresh, so original, and so mind-strikingly brilliant, that they can win awards at almost any anime con.

IF... and this is a very big if!

IF the AMV is executed well! I recall finding an AMV with Family Guy sound clips put to different anime, and the concept is really funny and brilliant, but the execution was so flawed that the brilliance was covered up.

This is why I suggest to new AMV makers. If you have a great idea, but don't get the AMV execution right the first time, REMAKE IT! A better sparkling product will replace the old one, and if the hammer hits the head of the nail just right with this go-around, then consider yourself on your way to Kevin Caldwell legend status!

Alright, enough talking out of me. I've written far too much for my own good anyway. Hell, I might as well make this a sociologic essay on the common conflicts found in the AMV suggestions forum.

Hmmm, that would make for great website content! :ZING:

Since when are you the authority? You joined in March, this year. Oh and trolls don't "cause flames". They "flame people" but not as much as flamers do.

Thanks for the backup Scintilla! :)

Sure I may have joined in March as an official member of the ORG, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been here before. I remember this place back in its roots before you had to be a member to get full access. This forum didn't exist, and downloads were available to anyone.

I've been a forum user and frequent online regular for almost 10 years now. Even if I just signed up to this forum, I've picked up standard forum etiquette from MANY others. Hell, I even was moderator of one for a while until life and work took over. In fact, the only reason I'm able to spend any time here at all is because I've been looking for work and this will end next week when I start my new job. (Thank God! I can finally make some money!)

Of course, with the added income, I can get more anime, and also get the REALLY good programs to start making my own AMV's. I'm jealous of all the time you guys have to AMV making, and I want in on the action!

I admit I babble, but I don't babble on pointless stuff! I try and make my babbles something that people might learn from. Sometimes it works... sometimes it makes people think I'm a ludicrous blowhard. (Which I CAN be at times...)

But enough about admitting my own weaknesses... time for the defense! If there REALLY is something I got wrong in my babbling, please quote me CORRECTLY! I actually searched my own post to see if I EVER wrote "Some pointless babble" before it hit me that you didn't even quote me at all! It was just a jab at me and my long posting habits! That was not very nice at all!

Before you mock my writing... READ IT first! I like knowing that if people are going to argue, debate, or theorize with me, the least they could do is READ what I've said!

Capish?

Anyway, thanks again Scintilla for the support. I like the idea of knowing that there are some friends who can take my side on things here in the forums. Makes me want to come back more often! :) (As opposed to my fiancee who goes, "Are you wasting time on that forum again?" No! "Did you forget to take out the trash like I asked you?" NO!)

:)
