evangelion and rah xephon, similliar but different.

Post by supersayian313 » Sun May 15, 2005 9:24 pm

i just finished watching the Rah Xephon complete series. ive already been a fan of neo genesis evangelion. my point is the similarities.

1. both shows are about a giant robot/humanoid, whose purpose was to cleans the world. the rah Xephon and the evangelion unit 1

2. both are run by a military organization, outside of the goverment. terra and nerv.

3. the main characters, they are very similar. both shinji and ayato both struggled to find out who they are. and if you watch both shows you will know what i mean about the other characters being similar as well.
another example is rei and quon.

4. the enemy. both the "angels" and the "d1" or dolums were very similar, in many ways. even the way they are drawn.

but still, both shows have a different story to tell. they are different in many ways too. were these two shows created by the same people? which one came out first?

i still recommend both animes to anyone looking for a good series to get into.

I think it's pretty obvious that RahXephon contains a number of nods to Eva. From the yellow dress to the occasional angel reference...

Nope, Evangelion was produced by Gainex and RahXephon was produced by BONES. To my knowledge, they weren't created by the same people.
But I heard that Gainex did a small portion of some of the animation in RahXephon.
which one came out first?
Evangelion.

Evangelion was the first series I got really into. When I watched RahXephon I cringed at a couple of the things that they practically stole straight from N:GE, but I enjoyed the twists that they'd add, as well as the differences.

I think RahXephon was a bit more fully developed than Evangelion, in terms of the characters having more... 3D personalities, I suppose. I mean, I'd still choose Eva over RahXephon if I had to, but they're both very excellent series.

(Incidentally, NGE ep 9 and RahXephon ep 21/22 (I can't remember which) are two of the finest mech battles I've watched in anime.

Well, being the Eva freak I have recently become, it looks like I'll be ordering the RahXephon box set now. More anime to add to my ridiculously growing queue.

Impressive! I don't really know how many I have. I'm guessing it's over 100+ DVDs worth. I think I only have about 25 or so series though.

The order has been placed. Now the question is when will I actually get a chance to watch it. I still have Seed and Naruto on my list. I'm still digesting Eva Platinum...even after I just finished watching the Perfect Collection, D/C releases, and EoE.

It's basically the US version of the Japanese Renewal NGE DVDs. It's been remastered in 5.1 and the video has been really improved. The Directors Cut versions are included for episodes 21-25 and each DVD has a nice booklet. There are also commentaries (unfortunately ADV and US VA ones) among other things. The slip covers and box are gorgeous too.

From what I have seen so far the video quality is SO much better. I've also heard that the 5.1 audio is excellent but I didn't get a chance to sample that yet since I'm only watching in regular stereo. Another good thing is that the DC versions of the last 2 DVDs are already included. Those versions offer more insight on the characters than the Perfect Collection.

If you're a hardcore Eva fan then I would definitely add it to your collection...even if it's just for the upgraded video quality alone.
