Well, being the Eva freak I have recently become, it looks like I'll be ordering the RahXephon box set now. More anime to add to my ridiculously growing queue.
a good investment. getting Rah Xephon. i have a huge anime dvd collection too. around 150+.
Impressive! I don't really know how many I have. I'm guessing it's over 100+ DVDs worth. I think I only have about 25 or so series though.

The order has been placed. Now the question is when will I actually get a chance to watch it. I still have Seed and Naruto on my list. I'm still digesting Eva Platinum...even after I just finished watching the Perfect Collection, D/C releases, and EoE.
OHM. I'm such a n00b..... *has, like, 10 DVDs and about 20 or so VHS... >> Taped though* Anyway, gah!

I saw a bit of RahXephon from On Demand, and viewed this KICK ASS AMV done by, uh... Koop-something. I wanna see it, the animation looks gorgeous. Plus, it has a few of the dub actors I like. *hear Gojyo's voice and... that guy... O.O*

I've yet to see RahXephon because everytime I attempt to watch it someone threatens to kill me saying "OMG BLATANT EVA RIPOFF!@!11"

Though the animation alone is really what makes me want to watch RahXephon (it's so...PRETTY), because Eva...really, really pissed me off.

Hahahaha, I've noticed that too. It didn't sway me. I want to see it now BECAUSE it's compared to Evangelion. I'll try to put all preconceptions aside and see it for myself.

Evangelion pissed me off in the beginning but now that I've been watching it the 2nd time around, I'm really starting to appreciate it even more and realizing that the ending(s) isn't as bad as I originally thought.

Speaking as someone who's been watching Rah and has watched EVA through, I personally find the 'rip-off' argument to be pretty flimsy. There's a few scenes that have similarities, yes, but the storylines are rather different (personally, I've yet to see where EVA had anything akin to the Tokyo Jupiter)

That said, next time someone gives you that, you then remind them that even EVA had to borrow things from other series as well. It's always fun to see the responses there.

Yea, wasn't Eva based on this really old Sunrise series, Ideon?

Woohoo...Yoshiyuki Tomino! I hail from the Gundam universe and he has never failed to deliver.

As far as NGE is concerned, I believe Evangelion does owe a bit of it's background to Ideon.

Haha that is so true. People that think anime started once Evangelion came out are sadly mistaken. I have become an Eva freak but I still know that it's roots came from somewhere else.

The very same (...that said, if one goes digging, they'd find Rah owes more to Yuusha Raideen than EVA)

p.s. and in regards to Ideon...now that it's finally hitting the fansub circuit, I'm curious to see what the responses will be.

Oh, it's not the ending that pissed me off. I LOVED the ending...it was among the best points in the series, in my opinion...infact, I liked the series. I thought it was good.

The reason it pissed me off is because ever since I got into anime (which was about age 14...I'm 20 now) all I've heard is "OMGZ U HAVENT SEEN EVA ITS BEST ANIME EVER YOU MUST BEE GAYE FOR NOT WATCHING IT U POSER FAYGIT!!11" and just on and on about how it's the best thing ever and I'm a dirty heathen for not having seen it, so I finally gave in a couple months ago and bought "The Perfect Collection" and watched it and then after it was over, as much as I wanted to love it, I was like "that...was it? That's what people have been throwing in my face the last 5 years? That's what people wanted to kill me over not having seen? This is what people go all batshit on me over?" I just...expected something that would make me die of an enourmous mental orgasm...but to no avail. I still want to say I like the series, but after all that, it's really hard for me to say so.

The End of Evangelion was 100% satisfaction though. :D

The bigest difference between rahxephon and evangelion is that romance is a main theme of rahxephon. Personaly, this is what wrecks the show more than anything for me. With the exception of jin-roh I've never seen romance doen well, as a magor part of the anime. Emotions just seem to jump around. Theirs no real sence of progesion in a relationship. Everything just feels strange and very unnatural (someone watch the first two epps of kimi ga nozumo eien). This can just ruin so much of an anime, and with rahxephon it has.

Another problem I have with the show is the main character, Ayato. He's a typical cute, hapy, popular teenage guy. I hate that. Persoanly, I enjoy more realistic, imperfect characters. Characters that I can relate to. Often he doesnt seem to react realisticaly to his situation. Take the first few epps for example. After all that crazy stuff with the rahxephon, he end up in this abandoned place that seemingly came up out of no-where. However instead of having his mind go all screwed like it should, he acts prety normal. It just feels so fake.

supersayian313 wrote:i just finished watching the Rah Xephon complete series. ive already been a fan of neo genesis evangelion. my point is the similarities.

1. both shows are about a giant robot/humanoid, whose purpose was to cleans the world. the rah Xephon and the evangelion unit 1

2. both are run by a military organization, outside of the goverment. terra and nerv.

3. the main characters, they are very similar. both shinji and ayato both struggled to find out who they are. and if you watch both shows you will know what i mean about the other characters being similar as well.
another example is rei and quon.

4. the enemy. both the "angels" and the "d1" or dolums were very similar, in many ways. even the way they are drawn.

but still, both shows have a different story to tell. they are different in many ways too. were these two shows created by the same people? which one came out first?

i still recommend both animes to anyone looking for a good series to get into.
try looking at the credits to see if its made by the same person as eva
