I've always wondered how you know if they are being truthful about their own translation abilitities. It would be funny to see someone make up their own subtitles without knowing anything about the plot or having any ability to translate.

yep exactly...we only have up to ep 4 right now...but now we're kinda stuck...

and it would b interesting if we had a "fake" translator...of course if we found out theyd b banned forever and there would b some serious bashing going around...but it would b funny

I could be a pretty convincing fake translator, actually, since I have 3 years of on-and-off Japanese classes and studies under my belt, which makes me understand MOST of the stuff I hear...

...but what I don't understand could make some fine make-believe bad translation

I could give it a shot--I did pass level 4 (lowest) of the JLPT with 85%, and I can understand most of the dialogue of romantic comedy shows, but I'd probably have to resort to the dictionary for technical terms and/or long-ass on-yomi compounds.
