I have always considered it a relatively depressing song, just done with a touch of dry humour.
I fear the little people.

Meh...this would be a lot better if I actually had my CD case with me. Most of these are depressing, but not all. Whatever...they're all good songs nonetheless.

Portishead - Wandering Star
Beck - Guess I'm Doin' Fine
My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow
Massive Attack - Angel
KMFDM - Brute

The Used - Buried Alive (sorry couldn't help myself since the last song suggested just happened to have the same name)

The Used - On my own

This one is always a good sad song in my eyes. Slow, depressing...yet fits the brooding mood.

Moby - Who Does My Heart Feel So Bad

Moby - One of These Mornings

Those two are pretty depressing songs, there are a couple of more from Moby that are pretty depressing but I can't remember them right of the back of my mind..

The song "Watermark" by Richard Harris is about as depressing a song about a dead lover as I can think of. I don't suppose any of you have heard of it though. It's on the album"The Yard Went on Forever". Rolling Stones "Paint it Black" might work for you.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?
