My four pieces of advice when using WMM2:

1. Calm down.

2. Make sure you use source footage that is encoded either Uncompressed or with Lagarith Lossless codec, HuffYUY codec, or ffdshow codec. Under no circumstances use XviD-, DivX-, or MPEG4-encoded footage, because these will crash WMM2.

3. When you are ready to preview your video, do not rely on WMM's internal viewer! Export all movies you want to view and watch them with the Windows Media Player. (This is very important, because there are a lot of video errors that I only spotted when I exported the working video and viewed it outside of the Movie Maker.)

4. Save some money and eventually get a better editor to edit movies with -- WMM2 is just too bare-bones and crash-prone to stick with.

Is there any other way to make AMV's without paying for the software to make em? I'm flat out broke...I'm only 16.

Well, you can use both of these to edit and creat an AMV without WMM2, and they are both free to use:

- VirtualDubMod (found in the AMVApp): This is your free editor. It's harder to use than WMM2 as a straight editor, but you do get AVISynth support (and learning AVISynth scripting will make your videos really shine). The best thing about this editor is that it can import your raw source footage and export directly to XviD for publishing. :)

- Audacity (click here to download it): A free audio editor that can read, edit, and write MP3, WAV, and OGG. Great for multi-sample music and sound track editing.

Along with the information in the guides, you could make an AMV without needing Windows Movie Maker at all. :)
