If you could take any video game and make into an anime...

Post by OtakuMan22 » Fri Jul 01, 2005 1:34 pm

...which video game would you choose? Note, video games that have ALREADY been made into anime (Street Fighter, Kirby, Star Ocean EX, Viewtiful Joe, etc.) do NOT count!

ALSO, American, European, or games made in countries OUTSIDE of Japan count as well! Let's say the game company strikes a deal with an anime studio to make an anime based off their game. This is not unheard, because back in the days of Crash Bandicoot, Naughty Dog got a manga-ka who did kids manga (where Doraemon, Chocobo's Dungeon, and Super Mario manga were not uncommon) to do a Crash Bandicoot manga.

I would like to tip my hat towards:

Jak & Daxter
Ratchet & Clank
and Sly Cooper as three video games I'd like to see an anime based off of. They'd be great shows along the Shonen Jump line (One Piece, Naruto, Shaman King, etc.)

What suggestions do you have.

And because I know LOTS of people are going to say it:

Halo
Half-Life

So think harder! :P

P.S. And no video games based off anime! That's just DUMB!

Silent Hunter III

No, really. We seriously lack good WWII-based anime though, and that would be about the most interesting idea... Das Boot the anime, anyone?

Pong: The Anime. That would be amazingly cool.

Heh, uh... well you know, Das Boot and Silent Hunter III are based on the same exact historical idea and, besides being a dozen years newer, Silent Hunter III is actually miles closer to Das Boot than the original game!

Das Boot the movie, meanwhile, would serve as a nice model on how to do so - it had very nice soap-opera-like dynamics and good character design, which would translate very nicely into a good, gritty-looking 2D anime. Combine that with all the possibilities of modern 3D CG-graphics action, and Silent Hunter the Anime would certainly sell a few extra copies of the game.
I'd imagine it best as an OAV of say 6-7 episodes.

I'd love to see more WWII anime, be it based on great video games or not.

I would think WW2 would be a touchy subject for the Japanese because they, well, LOST the war and had to go through an unbearable period of faschism, but that's just me!

As for Pong: The Anime...

...that could work out better than you may think!

Well I dunno. The Germans have made some darn good movies about WWII (the above-mentioned one is no exception). As for the Japanese - heck, just start thinking of all the WWII themes in something like Space Cruiser Yamato
It might not be actually set in WWII, but the references are way too blatant, heh...

Okay, okay! Point taken! Let's move away from the WW2 games and try some OTHER genres and franchises?!

I know it's already been done, but wouldn't a Super Mario anime TV series be nice? (And in done I mean the American show done by Dic, and the anime movie that was made in Japan)

Tales of Symphonia. ToP and ToE were good, but I really want to see that be made into an anime.

I'd also enjoy seeing Star Fox, Super Smash Bros, and Zelda (okay, there's a cartoon for it, but I want an anime) into an anime.
