Hey this may be a weird question...but just wondering...

Did Shinji really strangle Asuka? Or was it just his imagination?

The Comatose would make sense then...
but then he was going through 3rd impact....

I dunno what to think, so if any1 knows, plz say something.

When the Third Impact was happening, it was in his head - basically his innermost desires came out then in his imagination.

When they were on the beach - he did strangle her. According to the creators, it was partially out of frustration, and partially to see if she were really alive and he wasn't still dreaming. It's meant to be a pretty confusing situation then.

Firstly, during the 3rd impact, it is his imagination. After, at the end it is the realty, cause him want to understand where it is, if is it the reality, and he is also quite out of himself. In the end they are Adam and Eva. So.. "Neon Genesis Evangelion", the new genesis of the humanity. Evangelion 01 is GOD.

I was nodding along in agreement until you hit the Adam and Eva part. They are not going to repopulate the planet by themselves. Remember, Yui specifically told Shinji that if anyone can imagine themselves as individuals in their heart, they can return to a human form. However, it is THEIR choice, whether or not they wish to reject Complementation (and the sea of LCL). Shinji and Asuka are the first two people we see that reject it (assuming you saw End of Evangelion).

Thats also an interesting thing. When he strangles Asuka her eye(or is it eyes i cant remember again the similarities with Rei.) was open and shinji began to cry. I think that he realised that his current state of reality was very real and he became either physco or upset.
Asuka already knew that it was real and called shinji pathetic because he didnt. Well this is one of my very many case scenarios of The End Of Evangelion.

Asuka already knew that it was real and called shinji pathetic because he didnt. Well this is one of my very many case scenarios of The End Of Evangelion.

The debated scenes are:

1) Why did Shinji choke her?

Lots of theories...

a) to confim he was in reality.
b) to confirm Asuka was real. This one opens another can of worms because there are some more theories to this, namely that Shinji was on the beach by himself for a while before Asuka appeared.
c) continuation of his dream state where he feels he was rejected.

2) What was with the caress? Why did he break down after the caress? Recall that Shinji did not cease to choke Asuka until she caressed him.

a) it reminded him of his mother's caress
b) she moved! she's alive!
c) she actually didn't REJECT me! (like she did in the dream state)

3) Why did she say "disgusting"?

This one is one of my favorite topics.

a) The voice actress revealed an interesting thing during an interview. The original line was something along the lines of, "why would I let you kill me". Anno wanted it re-written. He asked Asuka's VA how would she react if someone were to see her lying unable to do anything. The person could easily have his way with her but instead chooses to masturbate in front of her. How would she react? "Disgusting" was the reply.

b) She's got some morning sickness (pregnant??).

c) She's sick from just returning to reality.

From the 3 main issues I described above, I currently follow:

1) I follow a little bit of "a","b", and "c". I still ponder over this.

2) I follow "b" and "c". Here is a guy still messed up and choking the only other human he sees (and one he likes for that matter) and bang! A gentle caress is received. Recall how Asuka did nothing as Shinji choked her in the dream state prior to 3rd impact. Here the reality is that she did respond. My take is that she did not reject him as he expected.

3) I believe heavily in "a" although I don't think it was the only reason. I just believe it was a large reason for the reaction on her part. Remember the beginning of the movie with Shinji's "scene" in Asuka's hospital room.

For the last time, people! Forget everything you heard in the english dub of EoE! Asuka's final line was "I feel sick." SICK!!! Stop watching the dub, it's EVIL!!!

I am referring to the sub as well. Here's the problem. Although "I feel sick" seems to be the more appropriate term, she never said I (watashi). The line spoken if I recall correctly was "kimochi warui" which is confusing.

The problem was what was refering to really? If you see something disgusting you say kimochi warui, if you feel sick you say kimochi warui. At least that's what I found out from fellow Japanese friends.
