GLS - Kyo Tribute Video [Fruits Basket]

Post by Kumagarou » Thu Jul 14, 2005 6:05 pm

After meeting Seki Tomokazu (voice of Kyo Sohma) last year, I wanted to make a video for my favorite anime character, Kyo. I managed to finish it just before we left for AX and gave the video to Seki this year~

Anywho, the premise of the video is to show the father-son relationship between Kazuma & Kyo. So there will be cheesy-ness~

Title: Always
Song: You'll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins
Footage: Fruits Basket (Anime & Manga scans)

Beware there are spoilers if you haven't seen the last few episodes that are centered around Kyo! I hope you enjoy, and any feedback is appreciated.

NOTE: I'm well aware that the footage very low saturation, that was done on purpose. ^^

Eeek! I wish I were you! o^_^o I swear, Seki stalks me in each anime I watch. He's always a voice in them. My best friend has the same thing with the American voice actor Crispin Freeman.

About the video...I have to say, my expectations for good Kyou profiles are pretty low. They always seem to be 'random angsty song' + 'final episodes' + 'random Tohru-ness'. Yet, I've always come to expect quality work from GLS. Thus, I wasn't sure what I was going to get in this video, but I hoped for the best.

I wasn't disappointed. It took me a while to warm up to the song as something I'd see in a Kyou profile, but it really made sense from the perspective you were taking it from. In the end, that's what made the difference in this video. It wasn't about Kyou's inner pain, so much as it was about Kazuma trying to help Kyou with that pain and the relationship they developed along the way. I've rarely seen people look at Kyou from that angle in videos - maybe because of lack of footage. Either way, the concept intrigued me and I was hooked simply because of that.

As for the way you edited it...I thought that it was good for the song. It wasn't too flashy or too fast - just enough to match the flow of the music. Your timing was great and your scene selection (limited as it may have been) was perfect. I'm not terribly fond of the manga images, but I do commend you on their usage. If a person is going to use manga, one should do it like you did. All too often the creator just puts in random images to substitute for what's not shown in the anime. So, nice job here, but the manga usage isn't my thing.

Overall, really great job here. It definitely isn't the typical Kyou profile, and is a strong addition to the Fruits Basket genre of videos. Well done! ^_^

Haha Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! ^^

Usually when I make AMVs I don't download other ones similar to what I have in mind (in this case a Kyo profile video). I pretty much work with the idea I imagined and go from there. So half the time, I don't really know what I'm being compared to, but it's nice to know that I tend to do something different from other videos out there.

Thanks again for the feedback <3

Oooo this was a nice change from the typical Kyo profile.

I think at times some of your synching was a bit rushed and the quality of the scans were a bit iffy, but I liked how you melded both the manga and the anime together.

Twas an enjoyable Kyo vid. ^.^

Glad you enjoyed it ^^

Some of the scans were fuzzy because they were at an odd placing in the manga (really close to the binding) so that made it very hard to scan properly. I didn't want to risk breaking the binding just to scan a picture ^^;

But yeah, thanks for the comment! <3

wow, this is the first Fruits Baskets music video that I actually liked. Good Job!
First they came for Evanecese, and I did not speak out because I was not a fan. Then they came for Creed, and I did not speak out because I was not a fan. Then they came for the Seether, and I did not speak out because I was not a fan. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me.
