i suggest akira yamaoka..he did the music for silent hill but he is really good..check out:

your rain- its a brilliant song and hes done a few other sad but happy songs- seriously, hes really REALLY good.

besides the anime songs all of these artists have other great songs, should check em out

Um... MUCC, Baroque, The Pillows, 12012, Miyavi, Gazette, L'Arc~en~ciel, Kagrra, Kagerou, Cali || Gari, D, +D'espairs Ray+, Moi Dix Mois ( I think I spelt it right... >_>;;;) and Takui.

So yeah, those are some bands/artists...

Ellegarden's a great band, plus they have the added bonus of many songs sung in English.

If you're looking for something more... <i>underground</i>, I have an asston of Japanese garage band CDs...
