best type of music to make a amv on

Post by didrox » Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:56 pm

thinking about how many people dislike linkin part songs on amv because how popular they are i have come to ask my self this question ." what song is best to make an amv on?" some songs are popular and so making an amv on that type of song semi-garantees that most people will like it , however it takes away from your originaly. then again a unknown song willmaybe have a few fans will have its originality but here is a reason for it being unknown and only very few people likeing it (im proposing that it might suck).

clearly its a question on where should an amv be aimed at ? perosnal preference or to be accepted and like by your peers ?

so what do you think ?[/u]

The fact that you're even asking this question indicates a leaning toward the second; if you can make AMVs with the primary objective of other people liking them, rather than of making something that you personally want to watch, there's nothing wrong with that.

However, what people are willing to like is a lot less deterministic than it appears, and there's always the chance that you may come out with something that not only you're not real fond of, but nobody else likes either. When you work to please yourself, you know that at least one person's going to be pleased and/or satisfied with the video.

If you want to make a video with popular or overused music -- or with your friend's band that nobody's ever heard of (done both) -- just go for it. Don't waste time agonizing over how people are going to react, just make the video and find out when you release it.

I think whatever goes good with the anime, and yes Linkin Park and Evenesence have been used waaaaaay too much, they still make the amv's cool ^_~

I say if it's a song that's a bit overused, you better make up for it with some killer originality in the actual video. But even if you did, I can't imagine you'd get as many kudos for it.

Other than that, the song should probably have a really defined beat, nothing sloppy. It's just 10x easier working with that. Whether it's slow and depressing or heavy and upbeat, it better have a pretty defined beat.
Also the song shouldn't be too repetitive. For example, they shouldn't repeat the same short chorus over and over too much, because that could result in you using repetitive footage. I'm having that problem now, but I'm not stopping (because there's no other song in my library that fits better with the footage).

You would be surprised just how many people listen to stuff that does not qualify as music. Then try to pawn off a video based on the popularity of a song that only teenagers like. The only reason they like it is because their hormones are so out of alignment their unable to realize it sucks. The older I get the more I seem to veer away from the mainstream. The mainstream destroys artist (for the most part). The debut CD is great then each consecutive production slow dwindles into craposity<---- made up word of the day.

Why does every say alternative rock, like it is the only thing out there? I say hit up the electronic category. It has far more variety thing what you probably believe, from the completely psychedelic to the more chilled sound of contemporary music.

The answer to this thread is nothing. Their is no single musical style best suited to creating amv's.

I agree with ya their. People need to listen to more electronic stuff. But they woent they'l listen to whatever crap is on tv, and they'l like it. When something els comes on tv, they'l like that too, and the other thing would have goten old. Thats contemporary music for ya.
