forget pikachu. i'm giving this one to hello kitty. that cat was out when i was in grade school...heck possibly before grade school. i knew who hello kitty was before i even knew what was an anime.

if you want an older more popular character here then i'd give it to speed racer.

yah... people buy hello kitty stuff without even knowing where she came from so I guess that would top all else since not even pokemon can say they have entire stores with only their merchandise.

If we are going for strictly memorable, then I'd have to say Excel Excel from Excel Saga.

Everyone I've shown-well force shown-that anime has walked away a changed person. Of course, it could be the twitching and silent head shaking some do; however, for the most part, it's a good thing.

If we are going for strictly older memorable, I'd hang my tag with either Usagi of SM or Tetsuo of Akira. Both good runners for the money.

No, I cannot think of Speed Racer without thinking of that damned Lyon [exit, stage left], The Flintstones, and all those other horrible things he was integrated with for 'Saturday Morning Race Shows' etc. Ick, right up there with The Banana Splits and Land of the Lost.

Goku from you guessed it Dragonball Z.

he's done more in his life than most characters. he's been to Kami's Look out, Other World check point, King/Grand/Supreme Kai's planet, Hell/HFIL, Other World, near bottom of the ocean, Deep Space, 2 Nameks, the Moon and even Demon land, and has fought everything from human to saiyan to robot to ghost.

Next is Optimus Prime, he's had nearly more face lifts than Joan Rivers.
