DVD Ripping?

I am very sorry if this is the wrong forum, or is a stupid question, but what EXACTLY is DVD Ripping? I would like to know if it damages the dvd at all, and if the dvd is still viewable on a dvd player afterwards.
I am still learning how to make amvs, and I would apreciate some help.
Also, is there programs especially for Mac OS X to help with the process of making amvs? Thank You..

No, DVD Ripping does nothing to the DVD.

If you've ever taken music off a CD onto your computer, that's called CD Ripping. DVD Ripping is the exact same thing, except you're ripping video and audio instead of just audio.

If you don't have a DVD Ripper, you might be able to find some free trials on

www.download.com

That page of EADFAG tells you how to rip and which program to use. If you're going to make an amv, read the rest of the guide too. (If you already are, or have, ignore my post).
