vampire hunter d book is it diff. from the film

i went to book store in the mall i work at during my lunch break and i noticed on one the shelves there was a vampire hunter d book on the sticker it said its the first time english transaltion of the book that eventually became the first vampire hunter d film. my ? is this, is the book very different from the film version as far as scenarios and backstory or pretty much the same as the movie. wondering if anyone has read it could give an answer.

It's actually the first in a whole series (they're up to at least 17 by now)

That said, the events of book 1 are, for the most part, what we saw in the old movie, however, not without some changes...

Most notable of these is the dimension-shifting Rei Ginsei.
In the adaptation he was...for the most part, a side-character.

The novel actually makes him the leader of a third faction (The Fiends Corp...all supernaturally-gifted thugs) ...anyways, Rei strikes a deal with Lee to advance himself as a noble and plans to have D eliminate the rest of the team for him, and then he'll finish off D.

...overall, the book's gonna make the film adaptation seem pretty weak in the long run (that's only one of the more major changes)

thanks for the info i think i get it its on sale. up to 17 books wow, but i take it none are translated into english yet.

dumb ? but i take it bloodlust is the second book?

To answer the first question: Not yet, they just started the translations, so book 1's all that's available (book 2 ('Raiser of Gales') is due out later this month, actually)

To answer the second question: No, the storyline for Bloodlust actually comes from the third book in the sequence.
