why are you using an unstable codec?

i responded with this

so the problem remains unsolved? ok then... Rolling Eyes

meaning that if stablity issues were not included in a review, then nothing would be done to fix them.

also since the problem "must be with my system", i posted its specs so maybe someone can tell if there is, or is not, something about my comp that's causing this codec to crap out.

If you really wanted to you could redo your entire system. This would get rid of the glitch and give you a fresh start. Of course you would have to back up all your files, but this does not take very long. Also have you tried COMPLETELY uninstalling and reinstalling the DIVX codec. This might also work.

If thats the case I would redo your entire system. In other words take EVERTHING off using the disks that came with your computer and then use the sent recovery disks to reformat your system. Of course if you don't have these disks you will probably have to call in to the makers of the computer and have them sent to you. Sorry I can't be mroe help but I have yet to have a problem playing videos that use this codec.

Try VLC; I'm fairly sure it decodes everything itself rather than relying on the DirectShow codecs. But I don't have a link or anything...

It doesn't rely on directshow, and, if this won't play back the file, then there is probably something seriously wrong or corrupted.

actually its a machine i built.it was completely repartitioned when i upgraded to XP. i'll try that player you linked. maybe that will help

stop using codec packs!!!!!!! how many times do people have to say this??? remove the pack and all traces of any buggy codecs and then install only the few codecs you need manually.

If you installed any codec pacs in the past, they're screwing with your system and (assuming you were correct in saying you uninstalled them) the best choice is to simply reformat your HDD. There are some serious problems here, and they're not with the codec used to encode. This is a decoding problem and thus it is lurking on your machine.
