My mom likes to pick at small details when it comes to anime (she has been tainted by my little brother's obession with Pokemon).
She does seem to like some of Yoko Kanno's compositions, though.
I used to have a Bebop screensaver that would play the Real Folk Blues on my old puter. But for some odd reason the puter would turn itself on in the wee hours of the morning and (if I would forget to turn my speakers off) would play the Real Folk Blues.
I would then get a lecture in the morning. I sleep like the dead so I wouldn't know that my computer had popped on and that my disgruntled dad had unplugged it to silence it.
After listening to a Monty Python skit, Real Folk Blues started playing on my iPod and the mother said, "You know, this is kind of pretty when it's not playing at three o'clock in the morning."

Neither of my parents watch it, but I don't really watch anime in pubic. My guess is that my mum will love Grave of the Fireflies though.

My dad is really indifferent, but my mom tends to be fairly judgemental about it. I kinda keep the anime watching to myself, and I really don't like it when my parents are in the room while I am watching.

I don't think it is altogether weird for parents to like it. I just think it would be weird for my parents in perticular to like it.

I don't think it's wierd at all. My dad watches some of the older anime and I'm getting him into some of the newer ones. My mom honestly could care less but she pretends to like it.

My mum doesn't like Anime, but my dad has watched some Anime. He likes Love Hina, Golden Boy, 3x3 Eyes and El Hazard. He also reads some Mangas.

My, my. It seems quite a few people have dads who like or are indifferent to anime and moms who really can't stand it. Interesting. I wonder why that is?
Knowname wrote:so the book IS acturally called Emma.... She might consider watching the new anime of Emma. It just got done and is still in Japanese though. I have no idea if it's like the book or not but haven't heard any complaints.
There's an anime based on Emma? I'll have to keep that in mind. Let my know when it's released in the USA, 'kay? :)

Brigid, your mom and my wife could be clones. Your discription fits her to a tee. I think many women, especially middle age, tend to like more serious material and think animated work is only for children. Most women think the men are just bigger boys, we never grow up. Perhaps it is just that, over the generations, men have learned to leave their work at the shop while women have had to keep up with the home all hours of the day.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

That's a very good point.

Getting woken up at unholy hours to feed a teething baby probably doesn't help, either.
