What do you use?

Ok, so I just made my first video recently, and all I used was Sony Vegas. I see a lot of videos that have all these kick ass effects, but I have no idea what they're using. What kind of programs are out there to add effects like that?

To answer your question:

Look at the software lists in the Video Software Help forum.

As for me, I use GIMP, CinePaint, Blender, Cinelerra, Inkscape, AVISynth, VirtualDubMod, and whatever else I can get my hands on. Sometimes gvim and gcc/g++ if there's some custom coding involved, but luckily I've only had to do that to write some simple transcoding software. Look in the Free Software / Open Source Software thread for more information.
