Sorry to double-post (><), but for those who can't read French, I thought I should translate so that English-speakers don't feel excluded from this thread.

Shaam wanted info on FB, but asked for simple language as she/he is a French speaker, so I recommended a French FB site. Then Shaam wanted to know if the seahorse that Hatori transforms into represents the horse or the dragon of the zodiac. I, and Kitsuner who translated Shaam's post into English, replied the dragon, and I mentioned that the horse and the rooster are only in the manga. Shaam wasn't familiar with the manga, so I recommended it.

Anyway, sorry for the interlude.

I'm sorry, too...

Thank you for your help, I will buy the manga if I can find it and I'll give you my feelings about it!

I love Fruits Basket!

In fact it's probably the only anime that I spend most of my time researching for, anyways I have a lot of favorite episodes and the first one would be episode 8 coz' it actually made me cry*I know kinda weak, but hey! can't blame me! that episode was so sad I think a lot fans cried too!*

and although I love the series generally, I do hate one episode and that's episode 26 coz' it's the last episode  and I just hate it when I like something and it ends. :x

and that's also the reason of why I didn't buy all the manga at the same time coz' I read really fast and I don't want it to end fast too.

I didn't cry, but oh did I ever hate Akito after that episode. As far as just pure sadness in the series goes, that episode is only rivaled by Momiji's.

Agreed, Solaria735. I'm not usually one to be touched by melodrama like that, but episode 8, OMG.

I think the scene between Hatori, Kana and Akito worked so very well because of how it was shown. It was nothing too 'graphic', just simple in colouring and motion. I should have watched it in the sub as well as the dub to see if/how the dialouge differed.

Momiji's episode is also very good, and unbelievably sad. It shows what the Sohmas have to suffer, whether members of the Zodiac themselves, or the parents of a member.

In the anime, at least, we don't find out much about their parents, except for Momiji's, and, in a way, Kyo's.

*sniggers* at Kathreen's sig-line. It just says it all, doesn't it? I do feel a bit sorry for Ayame. He deserves to be shunned, in a way, but then he was only a teenager himself when he 'rejected' Yuki.

I'm borrowing one of the DVDs so I can see the one/two episodes I've not yet seen. One is where Akito goes to visit the school... Methinks it's not going to be a happy episode.

I still have to look more into this anime..from what I've seen so far, based on animation, it doesn't look that great. But if everyone thinks its THAT funny, I'll give it a shot <3

I agree, it's one of my favourite scenes of Furuba. I love the game with the shadows, it reinforces the tension of the moment.

I'm really sorry for Hatori and Kana, they were a goood couple.

Do you think they will do a second season for Fruits Basket?

That's a question. As far as I have read around online (and I'm new to this, indeed all anime so many other people are likely more informed), it doesn't seem likely.

The director seemed to think it would not be worthwhile without the creators being able to put in the same dedication and quality to the product as they managed with the first anime series. At least, that's what he said in the interview on the DVD (FUNimation, British release).

I have also gathered that, from developments later on in the manga, it would be rather difficult for them to make a second series. The first was made with the material they had available at the time, and I'm not sure if its concluding episode turns up in the manga (haven't read it yet). I think the anime is based on Volumes 1-6 of the manga, but am not certain.

Also, I think the manga becomes a lot more serious then certainly the light-hearted dubbed version of the series makes out.

It would be interesting to see how the makers would tackles another series. The story is not over yet, as the series' final episode isn't *quite* conclusive. We don't see two of the Zodiac members (albeit because they hadn't at the time turned up in the manga), and I for one am not convinced about Akito thinking for a moment about what Tohru said to him. Hint, Miss Honda: Philanthropy and deluded psychopaths do not mix.

But that isn't all. There is simply *more* story to be told about the Sohmas, and perhaps many fans would like to see it.

Indeed, the anime is based on 1-6, with a tiny bit of volume 7 thrown in as well. The concluding episodes of the anime were loosely based on volume 6 of the manga (they changed the order of a few events around in the anime, making the stuff from volume 7- such as Ritsu's episode and Yuki's visit to Ayame's shop- come before the Kyo incident, which occurs in volume 6.

However, you are correct in your intuition regarding how well Akito would listen to Tohru. It plays out quite a bit differently in the manga:
Spoiler wrote:
First of all, Tohru does not hesitate in going after Kyo; she merely throws up once from the smell and wonders what she should do, but then goes immediately after Kyo, knowing he would need somebody, rather than wandering for a while as she does in the anime. It takes her only two to three panels in the manga to decide to go after him. The major difference is that Akito does not show up to torment her in the woods. Yuki doesn't go out to look for Kyo either, and Tohru doesn't go to see Akito afterwards and talk to him. There's a really cute scene later though where Kyo tries to express his relief that he didn't scar Tohru when he scratched her and gets all flustered, though. ^-^
