I didn't bother entering this year, as I suspect many didn't, because of the very poor organization. CN is a con that advertises and pumps up everything, with very little follow up. For example, they have YET to notify last year's winners that they *won*. Never mind prizes.

Last year there were indeed more entries, they simply cut it down to the 'top ten' to make it an hour long. Since no one here is mentioning they weren't shown, I wouldn't be surprised if they simply didn't recieve enough entries to cut anything.

On a lot of levels, CN is trying to improve, but because it's a multi-expo, every cell is responsible for itself, and unfortunatley the AMV portion isn't given very much attention at the best of times.

I wouldn't expect prizes after the event, bugging them or not. They're amazingly good at not 'recieveing' e-mails.

I agree. The whole feeling I got from the con, not just the amv comp, is that "We don't give a shit about you" feeling.

I wouldn't count on the prizes either. I've heard the CN going to extreme lengths to avoid talking to people, including blocking emails and even phone numbers.

Well, Truthfully I'm not actually expecting anything, in prize format... however, if we can at least irratate them enough to block say ten different peoples e-mails and or phone numbers, we might be able to convince them that yes AMV's are very popular with the fans and perhaps they should'nt be so freekin chincy next year.

(but I still want something lol)

As for the Con itself, I agree (but i'm also a fan of Horror and sci fi) and those sections sucked just as much... I think They should probably split it up, the goers are complaining, the merchants are complaining...I mean c'mon there were big gaming turnaments but the retailers said they did'nt sell a single card. I heard people complaining that the $40 box sets of slayers was too much money... I mean they had letsee horror, sci-fi, anime, comics, and gaming. shoved them all together and came up with nothing. it's that old scenario of trying to do everything and accomplishing nothing. well pretty soon I can see people are going to stop coming, they will lose money, then they will try and fix things.

Actually the booth I was working with, the boss said he might not come next year. He wasn't impressed with how it was handled this year either. He was ticked that it opened half an hour late on Friday and that they actually shut the lights off right at six on Sunday.

On the sale side of things, although we sold a helluva lot of stuff this year, about 3/4 of a truck [those Discount move thingies], he said business was actually really slow, and although apparently there was more people in attendance this year, less bodies were moving through the dealers room. [I told him it didn't count on Saturday mind you, I mean EVERYONE's lining up for the masquerade]...but yea.

Thought I'd throw that in there.

I'm not expecting any prizes either, but meh.

I wish I could agree with you but I don't think they'll listen.

Anamorphic said "On a lot of levels, CN is trying to improve", but that's not my experence. From the events I went to this year, I think last year was far better.

Anyways, I don't have the energy to bitch directly to them about it, I'm turning my attention to Baka no Con which is only 3 months away! And even though it's a first year con and completely up in the air as to how it's gonna go, I'm happy to see that they know a con is much more than a dealers room.

Mr. Panda: HA Awesome.

Though admittably, they probably didn't screen the contest in the Bassett theatre since they had to prepare for the Angela contest.

I usually only go to CNA to hang out with people, and this year, I went since I'd been offered a job, which I might not even get paid for

It was worth it for me since I got Angela's autographs, and since I got to hang out a bit with Propyro and meet with Anamorphic.

What's Baka no Con? I'm out of the loop @_@

I'm asking myself the same question. Oh and i posted my thoughts about the con here, guess i'm not the only one who wasn't impressed. Anyhow at least i got in fifth or sixth in theater #1 on sunday behind a group 3-4 guys, had a good spot to watch it.

Baka No Con is a first year con starting in Toronto in November, from what I understand it's being run by the head of video programming at Anime North with other AN volunteers.

Apparently they are billing it as a "different kind of anime con" not sure what that means but it sounds more fan focused.

It's in the same hotel as Anime North was...

Actually. I think it's time to start a new thread.
