His name is Hayao Miyazaki, and he directed Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Porco Rosso, Howl's Moving Castle,Castle in the Sky, and Kiki's Delivery Service. As for the shows, I have no idea....

One is Lupin the Third, and the other is Conan (not the detective - I think he was a jungle boy or something)
You know what they say: "when life gives you a T-Rex, go ninja-kick it in the head." - Rayne Summers, Least I Could Do
Proud to be a Jenova's Witness - WWSD (What Would Sephiroth Do?)

I don't get why people would answer half a question, but EmilLang1000 gets the thread. Of course there were more TV shows and movies that he has done.

I'll save the other three questions for another time.

The show was called "Future Boy Conan", a small 26 or so episode TV series that debuted in the 1970's.

the story begins during the end of the world. Humans have built weapons of mass destruction using special magnetic technology which practically split the world wide open. One lone group of scientists tried to enter Earth's orbit to find safety, but are hit by flying debris and their ship crashes on a small island in the ocean.

After the cataclysm, all is calm, but the survivors believe they are the only creatures alive on Earth. They begin to lose hope until they find that their broken ship has somehow filtered drinkable water into the hull, and that animal life still goes on! With food and water, they start a small civilization on the island, and eventually, two of the scientists hook up and bear a child that they name "Conan".

However, with the harsh conditions, the survivors begin to die off until Conan and one scientist (who Conan calls "Grandpa") are left living on the island. Conan grows up energetic and surprisingly strong for a boy of his age. Life for him and his grandpa is rather peaceful until one day...

...when Conan was out fishing, he finds a young girl washed up ashore on his island. Immediately fetching his grandpa, the two help the girl regain conciousness and she begins to tell them that life still goes on! Conan's grandfather is relieve to know that there are still human beings and civilizations still alive on Earth. However...

...apparently humanity hadn't learned from its mistakes. Shortly after Lana (the girl) finally gets to know Conan, two strangers appear in a sea-plane... bearing guns! They go to Conan's grandfather while Conan is away, demanding that he give them the girl. Conan's grandfather refuses, chastising the young woman and man for continuing the barbaric history of mankind's brutality with their weapons. Wasn't the end of the world enough?

Despite his attempt to defend Lana, Conan's grandfather is killed when he accidentally misfires a weapon left over from the ship. The two strangers get away with Lana despite Conan's attempt to rescue her (although he did get some significant damage done to their seaplane). Conan goes to his grandfather's side where he tells Conan more about the past in greater detail. His final words are for Conan to go find and rescue Lana and LIVE! Live for the sake of all humanity and live in peace and harmony! With that, he dies on his bed where Conan had brought him.

After burying his grandpa next to the graves of the other scientists, Conan takes parts of the ship and fashions a raft with a sail. He sets off to go find Lana, and has continuous adventures during his journey. He makes a friend out of the wild boy "Jimmy", meets up with the bumbling, but not all that bad of a guy, Captain Dice and his crew, and infiltrates the giant fortress that makes up Industria, a completely artificial city where a totalitarian madman wants to find and resurrect the magnetic technology to rule the world. Why do the agents of Industria want Lana so badly? Can Conan find a paradise where people live in peace? Will he ever return to his home island again?

Find out in FUTURE BOY CONAN!

Seriously, this thing needs to be released in the US. It's CLASSIC! Watch it fansubbed if you must, just WATCH IT!

Okay, I'm calling the Two day rule here in order to get this thread back up and running.

I'm thinking that using the latest hottest anime as part of trivia questions is creating a gap between the doable questions and the REALLY hard ones.

Not to say that new series can't be used, but I'd say that if a series is still airing in Japan with no US release and is currently only accessible by import or fansubs, then I'd say it's a bit unfair to expect everyone to get it.

So to keep with the new, but also the reasonable to answer, I'm going to give a challenge. I'm going to ask some questions about Paranoia Agent which just finished on Adult Swim. The person who answers the most questions wins.

HOWEVER! All the answers MUST be in inviso-text. If you don't know what Inviso-text is, then DON'T ANSWER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES until you know what it is. The reason is because the answer to each question is a spoiler. OK?

Here we go:

1) Lil' Slugger, aka "Shonen Bat" if you watch the sub version, uses a baseball bat to hit people. What do some people say the bat is shaped like?

2) What is Tsukiko Sagi's hospital room number, apartment number, and what is the answer to the old man's equation ALL in the first episode?

3) In episode 2, Ushi is carrying a palm tree replica while walking and talking with Yuichi. There is a play on words in Japanese that means "To Hold a Tree". What is the original Japanese saying and the other REAL meaning of the Japanese saying?

4) In the episode "Happy Family Planning", they refer to someone as "Horse" in the chatroom. Who is the Horse?

5) In episode 3, "Double Lips", Harumi Chono is often plagued by crows. What do the crows symbolize for Harumi?

6) In episode 5, "The Holy Warrior", Makoto Kozuka is telling about his battle against Gouma, and during his story, the sleazeball journalist, Akio Kawazu, appears as a frog. Why is this appropriate for him?

7) Who is the first person to defeat Lil' Slugger?

8) It is said that the Otaku that shows up every now and then during the series suffers from Agalmatophilia. What is that?

9) Where did Taeko find the hidden camera?

10) Who is the real Maromi?

GOOD LUCK!

Sorry, OtakuMan, but I have to call "Two-Day Rule" as well . . . As it turns out, there was a question I asked earlier that I did NOT close out (usually I do resolve my unanswered questions when the thread is transferred to another user). So that question will be brought forward again (with slight modifications), along with a second Q -- correctly answer any to get the thread.

The previous question:

This question comes from the motion picture Houhokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun (aka My Neighbors the Yamadas).

At one point in the film we see Nonoko's classroom, where the students are showing their personal mottos to the class. When they ask their teacher, Fujiwara-sensei, what HER motto is (and No, it's NOT "Get Married" or "Change Jobs"), she puts it down on paper and shows it to the class.

THE QUESTION: What is Fujiwara-sensei's motto?

NOTE: I'm looking for the motto from the original Japanese version, not the English dub, which is decidedly different.

The new question:

This question comes from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. BE CAREFUL OF SPOILERS!!

In one episode, one of Section 9's Tachikomas decides to go out on his own. During it's excursion into the Great Outdoors, he encounters a little girl who is searching for her lost dog.

THE QUESTION: What is the dog's name?

Not yet 24, but here comes a new question; answer any one correctly to get the thread.

Q0 (the one that I forgot to close earlier -- it's still open):

This question comes from Mobile Suit GUNDAM SEED (now that all of the DVDs for the series are out, I'm going through this again) -- and will be in SPOILER-GARD (or Inviso-Text, or whatever you want to call it); please be kind and, if you answer this Q, also protect against spoilage.

New question coming up -- a correct answer to any will get you the thread.

This question comes from Omohide Poroporo (aka Only Yesterday).

One of the problems young Taeko faces involves the school lunch; the policy at the time allowing you to discard only ONE item from the meal -- you had to consume the rest. Taeko is even scolded for hiding her unwanted daikon radish and onion mix in her bread.

Other students have issue w/ the same policy. For example, at one lunch, the boy sitting next to Taeko has TWO items he doesn't want to consume. As he and Taeko discuss the situation, they strike up an agreement -- Taeko will take one of the items off of his hands, and later, when daikon radish and onions are served again, the boy has to take Taeko's portion in return. So with a careful glance to make certain no one's watching (and Brahm's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 5 to set the PERFECT mood! ), plates are switched, and Taeko consumes a second portion of an item from the school lunch.

THE QUESTION: What did Taeko have seconds of?
