Many DB/Z/GT character names are commonly used Japanese words, which can be translated into English. List the charachters and what their names mean in English. (List as many as you possibly can.)

I value my time NOT posting a complete list of as many name puns as possiblemegaman917 wrote:Many DB/Z/GT character names are commonly used Japanese words, which can be translated into English. List the charachters and what their names mean in English. (List as many as you possibly can.)

Also, most of the names aren't straight-up Japanese words. They're all messed around with, such as switching syllables around to form the names. There's relatively few that are simply "words" (and those that are tend to be words from English, not Japanese).

Well, let's see... he was supposed to be four at the beginning of DBZ... one year passed, then he was five when the Saiya-jin arrived. The fight with Friiza only took place two or three months afterwards, and despite the fact that the fight with him took almost a year to tell (
), it lasted only about 1 month, I believe (doesn't really matter either way. Another year passed afterwards, when Future Trunks arrived (
best character ever). Three years after that, the first five Androids showed up. So by now, Gohan is 9. Gohan and Gokuu spent about a day and a half in the Room of Spirit and Time, which agged them both by 1.5 years, and they had Gohan's 11th birthday while waiting for the Cell Games. 7 years pass, and now Gohan is now in high school (18). The end of DBZ takes place 5 years later, after Pan is born. so Gohan is now 23. DBGT takes place 10 years after that (you'd never be able to tell by how scrawny Trunks looks - he looks like a friggin 14-yr-old!
), so Gohan should now be 33. Finding the Dragonballs took about a year, so then he's 34.
I'm guessing 34. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I got one...
There are considered to be 3 Dragonball movies, 13 Dragonball Z movies, three OVAs, 1 Dragonball GT movie, and 1 Anniversary Movie.
1. Name all of them: the 3 DB movies, 13 DBZ movies and 3 OVAs, 1 DBGT movie, and 1 Anniversary movie.
2. Name the three DBZ movies (not OVAs) that are the only ones to actually fit into the canon DBZ storyline, and where they would fit had they been part of the standard storyline.

The night before the Cell games he turned 11. 7 years later (the Majin Buu saga) he is 18. The end of DBZ takes place 10 years after the Majin Buu situation; Gohan, age 28. GT starts 10 years after the end of DBZ; Gohan, age 38. Finding the Blackstar Dragonballs + fighting Baby = 2 years; Gohan, age 40. Assuming that the rest of GT takes place during the course of 1 year, then by the of GT, Gohan is 41 years old. (If not, then by the end of GT, Gohan is 40.)megaman917 wrote:You are wrong.
(btw, by the end of DBZ, Pan was 4, not 5.)

There are no DB, DBZ, or DBGT OVAs. Anything I could type to more accurately answer this question, I've already typed up on this page.EmilLang1000 wrote:I got one...

None of the movies perfectly fit; I've been through several discussions over my many years of fandom, and I've always found someone able to bring up at least one valid point for a particular reason that any given movie could 100% *not* happen during the canon series.
However...
DBZ movie 9 has a very good chance of happening. It's after Cell has been defeated, and after Trunks has destroyed #17 & #18 in his own future/alternate timeline. There are certain items, however (mostly involving Trunks and his character design) that prevent it from 100% being able to happen.
DBZ movie 13 also has a fantastic chance of happening. It would be after the defeat of Chibi Buu, but long before the Tenka-ichi Budôkai at the very end of the DBZ series. Again, there's just a few minor things that prevent it from 100% being able to happen.
There's a chance that DBZ movie 5 could happen, which would occur sometime during the three years of training for the Jinzôningen. However, if you want movie 5 to happen, you also have to have movie 6 happen... and that's downright impossible.
I could go on and on, but it just gets pointless and redundant. The DBZ movies (as with most anime movies) all premiered at animation festivals in Japan for people to just sit and have a good time with. They're not intended to fit in with the series, and attempts to do so just end up in long, strange, boring conversations that mean absolutely nothing to the outside world

Going solely by the math provided in the manga (ignoring all extraneous filler, such as Gohan's birthday pre-Cell Game, and definitely ignoring all FUNimation-dub-nonsense):megaman917 wrote:How old is Gohan by the end of DBGT?
- 4 years old at the beginning of the Raditz arc
- 5 years old during the Freeza fight (one year for Nappa/Vegeta to arrive; took off for Namek shortly after)
- About 6 years old when Goku returns to Earth
- 9 years old during the Cell Game (the Jinzôningen arrive three years after Trunks), but physically 10 years old due to the year spent in the Room of Spirit and Time
- This falls right in line with the manga's narration saying Gohan is 16 when he goes to high school, seven years after the defeat of Cell
- The entire Buu saga pretty much takes place over the course of a single day, more or less... x_X;;
- 26 years old at the 28th Tenka-ichi Budôkai, which is ten years after the defeat of Buu
- TRICKY MATH: There's never been anything official and definitive about how many years DBGT takes place after DBZ. FUNimation keeps going back and forth in their "official" information, and nothing's been said by Toei, including in either the two DBGT "Perfect Files". Depending on who gets asked, it's either 10 years or 5 years after DBZ. Therefore, the entire Bebi arc is either approximately 10 + ~2 years or 5 + ~2 years. You've got around a one year time period, here, since no real information is given in DBGT, in going through the Shinlon arc...
- Long stort short, at the end of DBGT, Gohan is pushing 40 years old. We can't get an exact number.
- 11 May 757 - Born
- 12 October 761 - 4 years old when Raditz arrives
- 3 November 762 - 5 years old when Nappa/Vegeta arrive
- 24 December 762 - Still 5 years old upon return to Earth from Namek
- 9 September 763 - 6 years old when Tenshinhan & Chiaotzu are resurrected
- August 764 - 7 years old when Trunks arrives
- 12 May 767 - 10 years old when the Jinzôningen arrive
- 16-17 May 767 - 10 years old, but physically 11 due to spending a year in the Room of Spirit and Time
- 26 May 767 - 10 years old during the Cell Game
- 7 April 774 - Buu saga begins
- (No GT dates in official publications)
