This was brought up in a discussion here in the forums long before it became a phbb forum... And there's more than one search engine besides Google...
The audience was specifically targetted as an English audience and the movie was drawn and produced [yes right down to their MOVING LIPS] to be dubbed in English first...
Why? What proof is there that doesn't point this movie to Japanese origin? Well, the movie's cast is obviously a Japanese production however, there are some things that are not so obvious. The music writer for all the major songs in Tenchi Muyo in Love is most certain NOT Japanese. [incidentally, he also composed music for the long dead sci-fi series, Babylon 5]
The ending theme was sung by Megumi AFTER the English singers had it recorded... Was it released in Japan as English in their theaters? I couldn't find any information regarding that, but I know for a fact that the movie was dubbed in English first, produced FOR AN ENGLISH DUB first, and had its music written in English first...
STILL, it is an anime in every sense of the technical aspect seeing as the entire production [minus the english music/dialogue] was done in Japan...
Therefore, for anyone to say they watch anime in Japanese due to being originals is just plain uninformed and in my eyes, stupid...
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust does come to mind as well since there's more English in there and if you find the Japanese Theater Releases somewhere, in Japan, apparently it's shown with Japanese Subtitles with an English soundtrack. [I'm uncertain whether or not there is a Japanese Dub of it...] The production crew for VHD however isn't a majority in Japan however so I hear some people see this is a hybrid USA/Japan animation...
But as far as Tenchi Muyo in Love is concerned, as long as it exists in truth and in memory, anyone who says anime is better in it's original Japanese dialogue will never have my salute... [poor fools...
