Is Stream Editing a Good Idea?

Post by TheLegace » Mon Sep 19, 2005 10:14 pm

Hey guys, I have adobe premeire and vegas, so i got options, but anyway, my hdd is running out im down to my last gig, i was wondering if streaming from either a disk or network is good idea for editing, like maybe i could burn all my footage and add it to premeire or something

Thanx For The Help.

Also, when I Try to convert an OGM file into an avi with huffyuf it makes about a 20gb file, is that normal and then when i try to compress to the huffyuf codec it says about 11gb, is all this stuff normal? Is there a better compression i should use, i use VirtualDubMod.

Probably a bad idea. Latency time would flat-out kill you.

It's quite normal. But I don't think most people who use HuffYUV source files convert entire episodes.

Well i was just converting one OVA that was about 600MB, but i had never thought about cutting the footage into peices which is a good idea actually thanx, im pretty sure that virtual dub will do that though.

well, HD's are pretty cheap now - easy to get a 200 gig drive for under $80.

Also, you could try using the Lagarith lossless codec too, it compresses your vid files even smaller than Huffyuv.

just some thoughts...

DO NOT stream across network.oh my god....the world will be over by the time you finish your amv.

since you are running out of space...my suggestion is using avisynth and frameserve your video files...its fast (well for me) and its good.

* i wish there was an edit button, bit oh well

as far as compression in virtualdubmod, i like to use the windows media video compression....it works well with premiere (unlike xvid) and comes out to be same or less size..you MIGHT lose some quality tho...

Your editing with lossy files? Seriosly? In premier of all things? Damn even I gew up and and realised that no matter what method I used the video would allways contain errors when editing with lossy footage.
