I made an anime music video, but a large section of footage is from various anime music videos that others have made. I listed the video and author of each ones' premade footage that I used. But I am unsure if this is technically allowed. Should I have the designers of the footage that I used give me permission, or is siteing them as sources and authors enough validation to upload the video? I dont want to step on anyones toes or steal anyones thunder, if you catch my drift. Please let me know.

Whoa. Most editors consider using their video clips stealing. I don't really know how I'd feel on the subject, as I've never found anyone using my clips, but it's definitely one of the biggest no-no's you can make.
Unless you can get the permission of each and every editor whose clips you used, I would not upload that. I don't really know if there's an official rule against it, but it is definitely frowned upon, at the least.

The problem with using other people's AMVs to make your own is that you may unwittingly use some of their edits and not know it. So if your video becomes well-liked, it also brings to question whether or not it was your editing skills or the people whose videos you used that made it so well-received. This would not be a problem if you used clean source footage from a show.
So, in general, it's a bad idea. Although if you manage to get the consent of everyone whose videos you used, I suppose you can upload it. It is good that you admitted where your source came from, but even if you do get permission from the other creators, you should still feel prepared to face any backlash from other people who may recognize bits and pieces of your video from the original ones.
