Discussion of an Anime Character- Duo Maxwell

Post by Tainted_Eden » Sun Oct 02, 2005 10:50 pm

Hello! Last time (a few months ago. >>) there was a discussion on Asuka from Eva. Now let's try out Duo Maxwell from Gundam Wing!!

Again, NO posts with 'OHM!! DUO'S SOOOO HOT!' or 'He's so dumb!' This is an actual discussion on the character. And I've thought LOOOOONG and hard 'bout this one, tee hee!!

Duo Maxwell- his name means two, of course, which also can mean his personality. There are two types of Duos that are exposed in the horrid fandom of fanfiction, and both of them COULD be accurate as to what Duo really is.

Side One: Duo is an overly hyperactive guy. He holds no worries, other than impending doom of death 'n at, but pretty much has a massively optomistic outlook on life. He smiles, cries, and pretty much is a normal person... With REALLY big smiles. >> There is no deeper meaning to him- he's just Duo Maxwell, the cheeful and cute God of Death.

Side Two: Underneath the smiles and the laughs, Duo is quite depressed. He has a hard time dealing with the stress of war and of constantly trying to be himself- but who is himself? Burdened by depression and a past that he wishes didn't exist, Duo puts on a facade of happiness to illude others into thinking that he's truthfully carefree and happy.

Personally, I don't know what to think about him. He could be either or. The series actually gives us barely any thought as to what Duo truly is, leaving his happiness up in question. Is it a truth or a farce?

Personally I'm inclined to see the happiness as a careful mask, erected to allow him to do whatever he wants without consequence. He's a laid-back, laconic ne'er-do-well on the surface. So I'm siding with Side 2: The emotional wall.

>.< Yargh, I'm gonna bump this just once to see if anyone wishes to comment!!

C'mon Gundam Wing fans or just Duo fans! Which do you believe he is? Is he really trully happy, or is it all just a facade?

okey. here we go. duo maxwell is well probably more of the cheerful side. look at it this way. when he and chang get throne into the prison-ish thing that s running out of o2 he still tries to make the best of situations.then he shuts up because he realizez that chang is asleep and says that probably the best way to die.

(if im wrong dont kill me over it i was like 6 and i haven bought it yet...its been 8 years scince ive sceen the sieries...not including endless waltz....)
if the end is really the begining, where did we start off?

OHM!! YOU ARE SO WRONG! *kills*

Hehe, just kid. ^.^ Yeah, I haven't seen the series for a while, maybe that's why no one's coming in to discuss...

Anyway, to play devil's advocate, maybe he said that out of sadness? Like 'Ah, it'd be nice to die in my sleep', 'cause knowing him, he can't go automatically to sleep like the ever cool Wufei.

well that could be true but why would he be sad? i mean just cause your about to die dosent mean that yo have to be sad. he should be grateful that he could kill al of those people and- woops wrong track.e should be gratefull that he didnt die at birth.and look at eachan every happy memory in his life.........about 3 of those but still. and remember when heero fixes his leg by breaking it more.
if the end is really the begining, where did we start off?
