videogame footage

Post by baomon » Thu Oct 06, 2005 1:37 pm

It's either this forum or the general amv - I didn't know where to post this, so I hope I got it right :)

Anyway, I have a video and my question is whether or not I am allowed to upload it. The song is FF7 - One Winged Angel (Advent Children version).

Most of the footage is from the videogame Tales of Symphonia, and most of it is in-game combat footage - not cutscenes or world maps, etc. So most of the video are snippets of a certain boss fight. It's timed so that beats and notes sync up with lightning strikes or fireballs or whatever.

This video wasn't made for this site, I made it for fun and for friends. It's the last of a set of videos, but I made this one much better than the others so I thought "hey, maybe I can share it with more people and put it on AMV."

My concern is that it's not really an AMV, in the sense that... most AMVs have lyrics, or a story - or that there is a theme to the AMV, or the AMV should invoke a certain emotion. So other than perhaps "One Winged Angel makes the boss feel powerful" theme, this video doesn't have a theme. It's just mildly entertaining (especially if you're a fan of Kratos) and has some synching. I guess you could call it a fan video with no real purpose.

So my question is, can I still upload it? There's a bit of anime footage, but the core of it is what I said above.

Thanks for your time.

I'd read through the rules for uploading videos throughly to see what it says about this, if it says nothing against it go ahead, and it sounds interesting so let me know if you do.

Sounds like a good idea to me - I've certainly seen much worse ideas for a amvid. I'd like to see this.
Making an amv, is rather like being the director of a Broadway show, where you have a million dancers and each of them only knows one step.

thank you both for your interest! And so, I uploaded it. Enjoy!

However, after I uploaded it, I thought of something... I notice some videos may have small portions of totally unedited footage - audio and video - maybe a few seconds here and there. My video has some unedited FF7:Advent Children footage - longest part being ~30 seconds long.

Is that wrong? Is that something against the TOS? Or is it okay if it was shorter? If you download it, and if there's something really wrong, please tell me, thanks. Sorry if I did anything wrong.

Unique concept, though it did get a little boring after watching the character kill the other one a few times. Seems like the same scene gets repeated here. Maybe try using some different moves. Good synch with the beat. Did you mean to have the sound from the advent children movie playing in this vid? I think I would've liked to see a little bit more character or story to know who are these people and why are they fighting so much? If your object was more towards an action flick, maybe some faster editing and more special effects would've held my interest more. 'Course, I never played this game so that could be me. The ending seems to get more interesting as you change the scene more often. This wasn't a bad idea - I think maybe you need to balance it a bit more next time.

You didn't do anything against any rules that I know of. The worst thing that can happen about having a lot of un-edited footage is the more you have, the less work you put into it, and the lamer your vid. No - that part was fine, it didn't come across like that. This balanced out the other half by adding some plot, story, and character. This was interesting. Sort of telling of this ongoing-never-ending battle. Might've been more interesting, or more sense if you were facing Sephiroth. Just an idea. ^_^ Good luck in future amvs!
