I agree. I've seen my fair share of good amv's from WMM, but only if the editor has talent and actually tries, and doesn't just throw random subtitled scenes in and then make us op them. And as long as they use good quality video too.

its main advantage is it's very easy to trim and index specific scenes. the main problem with no workaround other than using a different editing prog is that it can't do layering.

since 2.1, stability isn't a major problem. it freezes now and then, but it can last for a while before freezing.

for beat synch, wmm edits at 15 fps, which means you'll be off by +- 0.03 sec. but when ever i've seen beat synch fall noticeably off, it's almost always the fault of the editor rather than the editing prog. and there are roundabout ways to get wmm to edit at 30 fps.

it edits linearly meaning clips are placed at the end of the last clip you put on the timeline, but there are ways to get around that.

wmv compression is good for low bitrate encoding, though not cross-platform compatible. if you want good high bitrate encoding, you can use the high-bitrate export settings and compress with xvid/h.263 using vdub.

Window Crap...i mean...movie maker? tried it onced, this was before
i knew how to really make a Amv, i didn't like it, was too clonky.
felt like it was holding me back too,...well, thats what i would say to anyone now, progrems that don't let u edit in real-time like WMM
really keeps u from making anything good, i've seen a few decent one's
but they where from creators that knew what they where doing and was just humoring the progrem,(no offenese)
overall, WMM is a good progrem to give new comers exp in timeline
editing and frame transitioning, but it only goes so far.

I'l second that, parcialy. WMM is good but if you're going to get serios about editing, $50 for a copy of magix isnt much to spend and does realy help, alot more than some half-linear editor.

Magix Music Maker Deluxe 2005 is down to $30. That's about the price of a DVD (depending upon what you're buying, it may be less).

I have never realy edited in WMM the only thing i used it for back then was compression... I can savely say that atleast 90% of the more advance editors here use other software then WMM due to its limits... i personaly use Premiere Pro 1.0 wich treats me nicely and the same way around... Though i other software dosnt mean better video's i've seen allot of premiere video's that suck and some (yes some cause they're very few) WMM video's that actualy stand out above the normal/average video here on the org... Anyway if you were looking for a % marge of WMM users on the org i would have to go with atleast 50% of all the video's on the org are done with WMM...

Mr Pilkington wrote:Real editors use Avid!
I totaly overlooked this but anyway...

Avid is a industrial montage/editing program... i dont think allot of people can afford it... I got it dirt cheap thnx to my school and i have a leggit copy of it lying around here somewhere in my hobby room *sigh* but i just cant seem to do with it what i want... it just feels strange to me... but anyway yeah i guese avid is the thing for hardcore editors though i fancy premiere over avid in my free time =)

Also i still need to learn all of avid's keyboard shortcuts =/ i should be recieving one (two actualy cause im also getting one for premiere just to get clearance for a couple of workshops from school) of those coloured keyboards somewhere this week. so that would make things a lot easy're =)
