I would like to know the reason for this too since my best guesses keep leading to the 'money' factor. Our TV Exec's are greedy too but they end up taking a break now and then. Since most of the best anime comes from Manga I would think breaking would be benifical for them to do and work a heck of a lot more then it does over here.

Either that or if they have to consistantly make an anime just make it every two weeks instead of one, this would probably put better animation to the table per episode.

Ah well, I can dream all I like. Aint gonna change anything but I'd still like to hear their reasoning of why they do that.

Thank you, I was hoping someone would mention this.

Negima actually seemed to follow the manga pretty well - at least in keeping with the basic outline of the stories. After, oh say, the 20th episode, though, yeah... I'm pretty darn sure it stopped half-way through.

[quoting both of you to save time]

From what I have gathered. Japanese pop culture moves at a breakneck speed. Fads go in and out of stile so much faster than one could ever believe to be healthy. Animes don't take time off for the same reason you can find next to brand new cell phones and other electronic equipment in the trash -- something else came along and the old thing was kicked to the curb. Taking any time off is thought to be a sign of failure for a series by Television executives. What i have never understood though, is why the manga writers don't seem to buy into this mind set as well...

True, but why does it always seem like the filler episodes are worse? I can understand it's not going according to the original story but man fillers can really suck sometimes! In one of the last fillers Hinata learned a new move that could rival Neji's. That was slightly interesting and makes me want to watch the fillers "maybe Rock Lee will learn something new".

Filler stories are still sucky though. It can sometimes suck so much that it makes me wonder why they didn't just ask me what they want to make up. They are going back to doing missions but it just doesn't feel right.

The problem they face is this: Because they're ALWAYS making new episodes, they have to make fillers to create a "time break;" however, the writers still want to remain loyal to the original story, so they can't do anything like kill off characters or have them learn lessons about themselves they'll just contradict later on.

American TV shows are made up as they go along, with a general week-by-week basis as to how the story will progress (although they do have a basic idea of what they want to end with at various points in the season), so it's much easier to do whatever they think is necessary.

The problem the Japanese animators have is that they HAVE to stay within the parameters of the comic; because the comics aren't like American comics, which have multiple incarnations of the same story, there is one set mythos which the animators have to follow, especially if they're making the TV show for the first time. The only time you see a GREAT divergance from the original story is when a movie is made based on the show; in that case, they condense key points greatly (Macross: Do You Remember Love, for instance).

Are you kidding me!? I just stopped watching Naruto and decided I'll watch the fillers in one or a few sittings.. If it's going to go on for that long I may as well just start watching it again.. or just skip ahead with the manga. :?
