If you just want to talk on a one to one level, you'd want to use PM, e-mail, or AIM, because you're limiting this thread to just you and Free Your Mind.
The forum IS for the exchange of ideas, but it is not limited to just two people for a thread. Your friend did tell you their AIM in their thread, that tells me they wanted you to come talk to them on AIM.
Basically, all that's gonna happen if you try to use the forum as a chatroom, is your thread will get flamed and will get locked, possibly before you even get an answer.
AIM is much faster and more private, anyhow.
