What's a good "Father & Son" anime?

FLCL has a few moments of bonding, except for when Naota's dad is shot in the the face and set all those booby traps in the field.

I'd go for the manga. Naota kills Kamon in that.

Urusei Yatsura (not many scenes?)
Speed Racer (Pops Racer has two sons)
Saint Tail (not 100% on this one, I think the boy's dad is the detective)
Giant Robo (but not comedy)

I'd say Abenobashi, but you rarely see Arata in that.

There's always Masayuki and Tetsu though, but both of them act like kids. Eutus is sort of a father figure for Sasshi though. Tetsu is more like some older kid that plays with them than a father (to either) though.

Okay, look at movies like that new movie "The Thing About My Folks" with Peter Falk and Paul Reiser, or a movie like that. That's what I mean by "Father & Son".

I mean there is the crux of it.
The majority of anime we see in america is geared toward the adolesent male catagory. So the stuff that primaraly pops (no pun intended) to mind is adolesent power fantasys where if there is a father/son relationship the father is marginalized so the son figure(I mean it always isn't a literal father/son thing but you get my drift) can go out and prove he's as good if not better then his father (I wonder what Freud would say about Robotech?). Anyho Ive got to lay of the coffee and suggest Intial D They don't talk much but there is I definet bond there

for some odd reason they fell in love with it

This reminds me of a Beat Takeshi movie from a little whiles back where a little kid, Masao, wants to spend his summer looking for his Mom who he doesn't remember. Currently, his grandmother takes care of him, and one day during the summer, the lonely Masao (his best friend is out of town with his family for the summer) finds a picture of his Mom and her current address. He decides to go find her.

Masao's grandmother is friends with a woman who has a husband nameed Kikujiro. Kikujiro is somewhat of a gangster and hustler who enjoys gambling and other immoral past times (although his wife keeps him line most of the time). Kikujiro's wife insists that he help the boy find his mother, and after some hesitation (and a stern argument with his wife) he agrees. However, Kikujiro screws up big time by blowing all of their travelling money on bicycle races, and is just about to give in the towel and return Masao home, before his guilt gets to him and he decides to follow through with the trip. So, the deadbeat decides to take it upon himself to hitchhike with the kid to find his mother, and along the way, the guy learns a little bit more compassion, and the kid learns a few good lessons in life (and some not so good ones like how to get a free ride ).

With a colorful cast of characters, this live-action Japanese movie is a good father/son flick, although it's definitly not a G movie, and contains some scenes that parents might not find suitable for children (The worst being a scene where Masao wanders off from the deadbeat, is approached by a pedophile, and is luckily saved by Kikujiro before anything happens).

The movie is called "Kikujiro" and was partly inspired by Beat Takeshi's(he also directed the movie as well as star in it) own relationship with his father. Worth checking out, although it is in subtitles.

I watched Vampire Hunter D with my dad and it was the only anime, so far, he enjoyed (instead of it being "okay"). So, that's what I would say.
