Mini Vs. Maxi series

Post by KingSchwill » Sun Oct 23, 2005 3:53 pm

Okay Lets start this show up. Which in you opinion is better Short term anime or long term. In my humble (but infinitly greater) opinion is that a short series has the benefit of my cohesive plot the ablilty to hold an audeiences attention. Not that long series dosen't have it's benefits. they allow great character developement and and a more sweeping and epic approach

Decent question. I think that shorter anime series' around 13-26 episodes are a lot better because they dont waste their time with fillers. Also, in longer anime series', the plots just becomes dry and stale after a while and often becomes non-existant.

My impresion is that series like FLCL and Paranoia Agent, Pack more origanality, creativity, and story in to six and thriteen episodes respectively Then how many hundreds of episodes of DBZ

A series should be as long as it has to be, not more, not less.

It's simple, really. There are series that are excellent in just a few short eps. FLCL would be the best example of that. Then there are series which NEED a lot of episodes, because that's how they've been set up. Monster is the best example of that, in my view.

There are just as many series that stretch for too long and become ridden with fillers and a lot of senseless plot-stretching as those that end too soon and leave too many things unfinished.

Yeah but a short series can hopfully make up for it's plot holes with OVA's while a long series is still a craptacularly long series

Unfortunately, not all good series that end up too short get OAVs or movies for continuation. KareKano was great (IMHO) - but they cut it off one season too short. And I bet there's a half-dozen other series that anyone can name that suffered the same fate.

As far as long series, again - not all of them are bad. I don't think the fact that a series is over 50 episodes in length makes it inevitably boring or repetitive.

Then again, it's all a matter of taste

in my opinion an anime shouldn't be longer than it has to be, for example Inuyasha and all 3 of the DB series should have ended and be put into t back memories of old veterans a long time ago.

It's like that old adage (or did I see it in an episode of Saved By The Bell: The College Years?) "the secret of all writing is be concise"
