No... a few people just screwed up and noone seems to have questioned them loud enough to get the facts right... I see it at dealers rooms at cons as well...

I just don't get why Media Blasters labeled Invader Zim as one of the Anime Works titles (which is probably one of the reasons some stores mistaken it as anime). :?

Sadly though, it is funnier and better overrall than some 'true' anime. I'm referring to Pokemon and Hamtaro and such.
Now, don't feel bad. It's not you, it's me. I Don't Like You. -.-

OK...so Pokemon and Hamtaro aren't marketed to you and they opted to change names for the US...that doesn't mean they're not anime...now if they changed the story as well *cough*Robotech*cough* THEN we'll talk. But otherwise...

Invader Zim came from the mind of Jhonen Vasquez, whose warped comics include the cult classic: "Johnny: The Homicidal Maniac". How on this green planet he pitched Zim to Nickelodeon and got them to MAKE it is anybody's guess. Zim pushed the envelope of what Nickelodeon would put on the air (you think the channel that gave us Ren & Stimpy would be more forgiving these days but nooooo...). Plot points such as harvesting the organs of children, replacing a kids' eyeballs with devious robotic duplicates, the ever present stupidity of every single human outside of Dib's family, and just about anything Ms. Bitters does.

It lasted for about two seasons or so before Nick pulled the plug. They claim low ratings, but of course ratings are going to be low if they kept changing the time slot it was on! So Zim was on the thresh-hold of fading into obscurity and only the die hard anime fans seemed to care about it (and college students).

Thus, it seemed natural that Media Blasters picked it up, and released the entire series (plus the unreleased episodes) on DVD. The three volume set is a MUST have!

Anyway, it got labelled under their anime works line and is now placed in anime sections, because ask yourself, do you REALLY think it should be in the Kids or Family section?! HELL NO!

So, while not anime, it does faithfully recreate the twisted and sick humor of Jhonen Vasquez and, and if you like twisted, this show works well for you.

Zim: "Gaze at the squishyness of Postulio!"
Dib: "NO! Your hypnotizing won't work on me Zim!"
Zim: "Oh come on, Dib! Open your eyes! You have to breath sometime!"
Dib: "NO I... wait that doesn't make any se... GYAH!"

The question had been answered months ago. Don't necropost if you have nothing new to say.
