Yes, several amv's have made me go out and buy the anime's which I enjoyed them all very much.

I watch anime for entertainment 3/4 of the time and the other 1/4 for footage ideas.

I like the show for what it is, not because it would go good with some random song.

This is really rare for me.. mainly because I tend to not watch AMVs from series I haven't seen yet. Exceptions happen with MEPs.. sometimes there are animes included that I haven't seen. Then it's the same as above.. I get the fansubs and if I like the series I get the DVDs.

I said rare because it has happened a couple of times. Long time ago this AMV got me hooked into Silent Möbius that got me to buy the manga and recently the DVD-box. Something like that happened with Sakura Wars too.

If I havent seen the anime and it sounds like someothing I'd watch, I woent bother dl'ing the amv in the first place, most of the time anyway. I'm guessing that Protej moi amv had spoiled a few things at least for FMA.

I've had to put SOME of my AMVs on hold till I baught the series on DVD..

unless the fansubs are really SUPER GOOD and can be used for footage *ahem* which seems to be rare for me these days :P I am not satisfied with fansubs anymore...

but there are many DVDs I baught, and many Animes I have downloaded (which were later baught) due to AMVs.... I like to have the DVD cause Dub is nice sometimes, doesnt take as much concentration and rewinding... and I am lazy... lol as long as the dub is alright that is..

I normally watch an AMV and then I buy the cd :) But sometimes it makes me buy a DVD like Vampire Hunter D did. I was really afraid of buying that DVD because the cover didn´t please me and the story sounded really boring but the AMVs I watched (Mitternacht, We will rock you) made me brave :P so I runned out of my house to buy it.

Saying 'This is my first AMV' is no excuse for a short comment.

I gotta admint I have only bought one anime based on AMVs

I went out and bought the Azumanga Daioh Box set ¦: O

As for buying them on the sole purpose to make AMVs no I can't say i do that but I do buy them with the hope they'll be entertaining, but with the understanding that if they suck I'll still have AMV fodder.

It's not usually so direct as "watch video, buy DVDs," but it's a factor. I might watch the video, read up on the series, check some fansubs if it isn't out yet, rent it if it is out, and buy it. Or... sometimes just buy it. :p It might be as simple as calling my attention to a series I hadn't noticed much before.

Series bought after watching AMVs (as above): Azumanga Daioh, Descendants of Darkness, Kaleido Star, Princess Nine, Read or Die.

And I do watch anime for the fun of it; there are series I like quite a lot that I have no AMV ideas for at all, and probably won't for quite some time, if ever. FMA, for instance.

AMVs are a factor. Word of mouth is a big factor. Connection to other series is a minor factor (by the makers of...). So yes, definitely.

I have bought (or checked out in the case of it only being fansubbed) quite a few titles because of amvs, Beyond the clouds, FLCL, and Someday's dreamers to name a few. Kalaido star is the next one on my list i'm going to get because of AMVs. However most of my new anime I just pick up randomly, read the Manga, or heard about it elsewhere.

I've had a bunch of people tell me they went out and bought Dead Leaves after seeing my video, and then after they watched it, they were like "WTF DID I JUST WATCH?!" :P
