Adult Swim goes old school. Really old school.

Post by DTJB » Fri Oct 28, 2005 6:23 pm

Starting Monday October 21, Adult Swim will be broadcasting the original Gigantor T.V. series at 4:30 a.m., central time. This is one of the earliest mecha shows around and it's a nice example of what anime was like way back then. Personally, I'm interesting in seeing how this will turn out. I think it's a great time slot to put the show in, 'cuss lets face it, not many anime fans, the younger ones especially, will embrace and series that's older than them, and is in black and white, and showing something that early in the morning means the network won't have to worry about ratings or anything like that. I probably won't check out every single installment, but I am really looking forward to seeing it.
Probably too busy to be here right now.

Uh huh... unless you mean November 21st, I'd say your sources are horribly wrong...

I'll be up or have the VCR running. I remember watching Gigantor as a kid. Should be neat to see how my memory is distorted. Now where is Dangard Ace?

I wanna see 'em put on Mazinger Z or something... G-Force'd be good, too, but that may be asking for too much.

Harlock or Starblazers, though, now THERE'S a couple I could get into...

or Maison Ikokku, or Urusei Yatsur (not happening), or Ranma (HELL no, not happening), Slayers, Video Girl Ai (again, not happening), Love Hina, Ah! My Goddess... hell, anything made between 1985 and 2001... and they DEFINITELY need to get Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust on.

Mazinger Z could be a tricky one...I think the license for that's been on kind of dicy ground given it got released stateside back in the 70s-80s in a VERY butchered form known as Tranzor Z (let's put it this way, everyone's names were changed, the show was 1/3 of its original length and all but two references to Japan were axed.) Suffice to say, as a result of that old license, Mazinger's been kind of caught in a legal battle since.

Right now only chance we'd have to see Mazinger hit the airwaves is if AS runs ADV's release of Mazinkaiser...but given that'd be the English dub ... *shudders* (...super robot almost NEVER dubs well...it's a fact.)

...although, on the notes of ADV and older stuff, I'd love to see Adult Swim pick up the Megazone 23 trilogy at some point.

Awesome! 8-)

I wonder if they'll show the unedited version of the show (parts of the original show were considered too violent for american tv, so a lot of action was toned down for US viewers).
