Isn't the whole point of this stuff to make it easier on people who want to spend more time editing rather than worrying about petty technicalities?Kusoyaro wrote:That's one of my biggies.Kai Stromler wrote:- The guide process is unilaterally the right process
And this isn't exactly related to the .org, but I hate the fact that people post AVS scripts for specific anime DVDs on the AMVWiki. What's next? People posting Premiere project files of popular songs with all the sync points marked up?

Perhaps you should look at it this way as well. Having the prescripted AVS files around for the official DVDs would encourage people to use legitimate footage rather than bootleg, or god forbid... downloaded material. I think your beef is just that it wasn't this easy for you when you started editing.

There should be a "move" tab, near "discussion" and "edit".Scintilla wrote:I just want to know how to change the two X pages so that they have <i>the proper names.</i> :Ptrythil wrote:I'd like to add that, like most pages on AMVWiki, you can edit the script pages to insert suggestions, point out blatant stupidity, and so forth. my comment was a complaint about the .org in general, and didnt really have much to do with their banter... I can see where they would be annoied lolScintilla wrote:Yes, that falls under "has no idea what method to use" category, and that's totally not what Kai Stromler and Kusoyaro were complaining about.JaddziaDax wrote:but I see people asking "how do i make and amv?" and they are directed to the guides as if they are able to decipher them on contact...
But I'll answer it anyway: They're directed to the guides because the guides (I mean all of them, not just the A/V tech guide) contain most to all of the information they'll need to answer such vague questions, all in one convenient location, so that we don't have to type it out ourselves.
If they'd ask more specific questions, it would be much easier for the rest of us to give them specific answers instead of linking to the guides.

Well, to clarify, that wasn't what my original post was about at all. Just so everyone knows, I know jackSHIT about AVISynth. In fact, I've never applied any AVS filters to any of my footage before. I don't know how to. I bet any quality-phile could take a look at any one of my videos and tell me it looks like complete ass. I've never bothered to read the guide sections on AVS filters, and I really don't know much about scripting beyond MPEG2Source and AssumeFPS. I just don't understand this obsession with having perfect video quality. I can't think of a single AMV that I really adore which has super-clean, pristine video quality...or maybe there is an AMV that I really adore that has super-clean, pristine video quality, but I never noticed, because I was too busy admiring how well the video was conceived and put together.Otohiko wrote:the 'technocracy' around here really annoys me sometimes.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

How about an obsession with cleaning up visible problems on tough cases like Kare Kano (rainbowing especially)? Though I understand that the definition of "visible problems" may vary... a lot of things that most viewers would never notice bug the hell out of me.Kusoyaro wrote:I just don't understand this obsession with having perfect video quality.
Oh come on, you were there when we were all able to identify who made "Do It Right" just based on the pristine video quality and the sources used.Kusoyaro wrote:I can't think of a single AMV that I really adore which has super-clean, pristine video quality...or maybe there is an AMV that I really adore that has super-clean, pristine video quality, but I never noticed, because I was too busy admiring how well the video was conceived and put together.

I didn't use AVIsynth a whole lot yet (just made on AMV, other one is in the works, I got the idea down yaddayadda) and I only touched the tip of the iceberg by only using stuff like AssumeFPS and Lanczosresize.
That being said, I sure as hell like watching clean, cookie-cutter AMV's a lot more than unclean (ugly, full with artifacts and other stuff) AMV which was being processed unlike any other AMV. I kinda understand the oldskool people for not liking a new easy way out for newcomers in the scene, but I don't mind as much.
And sharing the AVIsynth scripts on AMVwiki embodies what a-m-v.org is really all about, a group of fans with the same hobby, helping each other etc.

Heh, I still capture manually. I think two or three of my videos used ripped footage, gambitt might remember but I don't. I'm pretty sure none of Playground Love was ripped, it was all captured. Mad World might've been ripped, but those Synch Point FLCL discs are godawful anyway. Hell, I still cut at 29.97 for a lot of stuff. Yes, I'm admitting this, even though it isn't the popular norm amongst AMV people.
One reason is I CAN'T use any of the guides or programs. I can't Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a> or whatever. I'm on a different goddamned system. I suppose I simply have a problem blindly following a certain faith when I know there are other options I could try. Whether or not they work, at least I've tried them so I know what can and cannot work for the future.
It may surprise people, but the vast majority does not think beyond "hey, there's a free script." They'll take it and go with it. If you're trying to get the thousands of DragonBall Z and Naruto videos to look good while sucking, well, I'd say that mission is well on its way to working. Just wait for the majority to figure that one out. It sucks ass but damn, it looks okay. I'd just like it if people would actually think about what they're doing. Maybe then the videos themselves wouldn't be so cookie-cutter, I suppose.
I would love to be part of the technocracy. Maybe then I could partake in some conversation rather than being ostrasized for using a system that was built primarily for work and yet is not part of the crowd around here. It's a programmer's paradise in what should be considered an artform. I'm not talking about AMVs as a hobby, I'm talking about the art of editing.
All right, I'm tired of typing, and none of this will ever do any good anyway. I should've just started sucking Ian's dick with the majority rather than drinking with him. Perhaps I simply have an inability to go along with what's popular, whether it's right or not. I suppose that's why I'm not a Christian.
