Subjectivity! I call subjectivity and everyone's knowledge-of-place.
Some American humor is funny to me. Some isn't. Anime, to me, tends to be a bit funnier in certain circumstances; not so in others. Broad generalizations don't work. Neither does humor neccesarily work the same across individual people and across cultures.
