I'll have to second that with some provisions. I sometimes pay attention to lyrics so if it's too stupid (by my standards) then I won't listen to it. There are some genera that I try to avoid such as opera, country, and blues. Of course there are always those exceptions especially if they broke out into the pop world (i.e. Shania, Lee Ann, Bonnie Raite.) Even though I like rap in general I am starting to dislike the repetitive smack the booty and get some too kind of thing with the good beats. They are getting 4s in originality.DinaDani wrote:No genre in particular, as long as it has a catchy melody.

Generic death metal IS mostly screaming and noise. The word "melodic" is important when refering to death metalNicholasDWolfwood wrote:Metal. All kinds of it. Prog death (later Death, Opeth, etc), death (early Death, Necrophagist, Obituary, Hypocrisy, Cannibal Corpse etc), thrash (SADUS, Megadeth, early Metallica, I guess Nevermore could be considered trash), power (BG, IE)
/me awaits "all death metal is, is screaming and noise" flames lolz
Also, I've seen Nevermore grouped as power before. I haven't listened to them enough to say one way or another.

I don't like much melo-death, suprisingly. Arch Enemy and early In Flames is about the only melo-death I listen to. I'm more into prog or brutal death, like Death, Opeth, Atheist, Cynic, Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide etcTono_Fyr wrote: Generic death metal IS mostly screaming and noise. That'd debatable. Opeth and Death (what little I've gotten to hear, blasted christian heritage) are fairly melodic in particular modes.NicholasDWolfwood wrote:I don't like much melo-death, suprisingly. The only Death Metal band that I've heavily considered getting an album by is Dark Tranquillity. Rather awesome band, if you ask me. I should probably try revisiting some of the heavy stuff by Opeth, and should probably do like Kai told me months and months ago and get Death's Sound of Perseverence, which I may have gotten today, if Best Buy didn't suck. I heard a song from it when I friend was doing an online radio show thing and was blown away.
As for Brutal... Brutal isn't something that I get really into, it's not something that really draws me to it. I can listen to it now adays, because of a few AMVs, but enjoying it is another matter.
