I'm against this. And quite strongly at that. I find him just as annoying as the next guy, but being annoying has never been and never should be a crime, in any sense.

I may not always like what someone like requiett has to say and I've never liked anything imphill has said, but I do like the fact that they can say it, and the fact that they do. I accept a lot of policing on the org without any serious thought (it's just not that kind of site), but some things go to far.

If it isn't, I can give you a shortlist of perhaps a dozen other people that ought to have been banned a long time ago; for all my personal amiable relations with him, I fear bum would be one of these.

Asking for a ban based on annoyance does smack of censorship, which is perfectly justifiable on a public message board but just sets a dangerous precendent. I find lots of people annoying,but I don't feel the need to list names. In fact, were I go search back through post histories, I'm sure a lot of the more 'distinguished' forum regulars were probably very silly newbs when they first showed up. Plus there is another danger: the fact that these forums are supposed to be technical forums, NOT a community prescene (if they wer meant to be a community, they would have an Off-Topic section and other such areas). Asking someone to be banned because they are merely annoying and vapid and provide nothing to any conversation they join and....dangit, I'm trying not to convince myself of the rightness of this.

What could really help is a ignore button, though.

It's a little out-of-date, and it was really meant to solve problems with people that ended up pissing everyone off (hence the "g" for "global"), but I guess it's a starting point.
