Guys, there is an OT section. It's called Demonseal. I don't know what the URL is, but it's in some people's sigs if I recall. It's full of people who used to come here and moved there to have an OT section. Go there if your soul is crying out for random joking. Apart from that, there's AIM, IRC and Livejournal. The internet is full of places to chitchat. Full.

Different websites for different functions. I get email on one website, find AMVs on another, use another to search for things, etc. That's kind of how the internet works. It's very large and there is more than one site on it.

I do hate people whining about being poor when they seem to feel entitled to everything they want anyway. I have some constructive suggestions for them (borrow, rent, seek out sales, do your first few AMVs from movies or short series while you hone your skill, etc.), but it's kind of a hot-button issue and few people want to hear constructive suggestions. Blah.

thats what most people dont like about the org, we talk about being legal yet 90% of the people here download their stuff. its called plausable(sp) deniablity.
Um. Isn't this site a p2p file sharing site? I swear that I just downloaded a bunch of files to my harddrive that I can now dissect and manipulate at my leisure. Is there something morally superior about downloading an AMV (ie. someone else's music and video) from this site as opposed to anywhere else online? No one here can possibly be upset about such things (except the practiced hypocrite). Mask it with whatever rationalizations you want, no one is getting paid royalties, fanboy.

On the original topic of this thread: As a noob to both this site and AMVs in general I'd say that I like both very much, but I dislike the majority of the "community" that this creates. Opinions are all that we are made of here because we all have "day jobs". There is a lack of comraderie for a bunch of people who have the same hobby, especially towards newbies and children (they are 12 years old, for crying out loud, they can't even legally work a part-time job).

Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one." -Tool-

There's not much traffic here at all and the mods are anal about locking threads. Some forums there's like a post every minute, where as here sometimes it could be an hour before someone posts.. or ten minute gaps usually between posts.. go to gamespot or tranceaddict and you'll get 3 posts a minute or something around there.

What do I dislike?

THAT YOU CAN'T EDIT POSTS. :? Also, there are alot of good ideas in the programming section that are ignored and nothing is ever done with.

Besides that, I think it's alright.

If you have the time and are ethically malleable (I'd say "flexible", but that actually has positive connotations, which I don't think are appropriate in this case), go do something about it.

I've got neither, so.

I don't like elitist attitudes. I don't like how people go on like they're some sort of professional. Apart from that I don't give a monkeys about reviews and opinions.

I just thought of something really interesting, and I'm going to shove the idea down your throats (which might be self-evident because otherwise I wouldn't be posting).

Anyone ever been a junkie of http://www.everything2.com? They've got a pretty close community over there (albeit also filled with a bunch of elitists, children, and trend-whoring), and I think they have a pretty interesting system for getting writing around. What if the .org did something like their system? You know, maybe experienced members could leave C!s (Cool!) if they like someone's video. Maybe we could have a little chatterbox thing on the site just for people to talk about AMVs in an IM-like fashion. Maybe you could just check out a random vid, and maybe moderators could screen out absolute garbage (as in Linkin Park + DBZ/Naruto and such). We could link videos to related videos or something. They have a lot of things I think the org would be better for adopting.

This would get rid of a lot of irritating aspects of our current rating system, and maybe make the AMV community into... a community or something. I would like to envision an .org closer to the one sensei describe in this node: http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=879920

Seriously, think about it.

I don't like the forum. All of you guys have large sticks up your ass's.

This is the most controlled forum I have ever seen, where posts can't take any deviation from their posted topic for that fate is immediate closure.

Also this is the only forum i've ever seen where it's cool to point out how someone posted in the wrong section or tell him about the sticky on the top, instead of answering his question.
Bring the OT forum back!

All of us? Suddenly this makes me curious to as where the OT posts came from to begin with. If we're ALL really so anal about everything, don't you think we wouldn't have that problem?

Also, posts shouldn't deviate from the topic, because this forum is about anime music videos and their creation. It isn't about some guy's girlfriend dumping him, or what kind of car that one chick got for her birthday. It is about anime music videos. It is a controlled environment because it is a controlled topic. While don't mind some of the harmless fun that gets tossed around, if it isn't on topic, it really does deserve to be locked.

Well, those are my thoughts.

There isn't really much of anything that I hate about this site. I just think of it as, "this site is run differently than that one, and that one is run differently than that other site..." and so on.

I guess the unfortunate new ban on three Wind Up bands kind of bugs me (it's going to be a lot harder to get one of my future videos out now...), but that's not really something the site enforced on its own, so I can't be mad about it - and I'm not. I'm just saddened.
