m2v conversion - shoddy at best - suggestions?
Ok. So I finally stumbled over some sort of ripkit. (A gift from on high, I tell you. No guide that I've trawled through has been able to help me. I don't know what the problem is. I download the programs, they cheerfully run and then say 'Yep, we got nothing.')
So yes, the ripkit snatched a load of FFX movie files for me. It split them into mv2 and wav.
Now how do I put them together? I tried DVD2AVI, but the video quality is SHOCKING. I don't know if this is a result of the ripkit (From Zophar's Domain) or the DVD2AVI program itself. I'm pretty certain my machine is beefy enough to handle it.
Any suggestions? Do I need to tweak something in the program?
And just to clarify: DVD2AVI's results tend to be slightly jerky with a great deal of lines showing throughout.
After adding the wav file via VirtualDub, the sound is also choppy.
(Hopes and dreams of finally having something solid, come crashing down)
I know everyone says ripping gives you the best quality.. But it looks like it's not gonna happen for me.
PLEASE help, if you can. Im desperate. (And by the way, this time I was awake enough to search through the forum for similar problems.. But I was not prepared to slog through several hundred pages... I gave up after the first 100. Keywords I search for must be scattered through too many threads.)
On my knees here... See me kneeling?

All that means is that the audio stream can't be muxed ("put in" is a rough meaning) into a system stream. MPEG system streams contain the information to synchronize audio and video streams, and are what people usually think of (for better or worse) when they hear the term "MPEG".Von wrote:"Multiplexing Linear PCM stream to system stream is not supported"
Whatever THAT means...
If you really need the audio, you can use BeSweet to convert your audio to MPEG layer II audio; TMPGenc should be able to handle that. Otherwise, leaving it out should also work.

so, what are you trying to do? sounds like:
1. you have the original dvd
2. you used 'ripkit' to take the audio/video data off the disc
3. you are trying to mux the two back together?
what's the reason for doing this? If you're making an amv, you normally don't need the original audio back in sync with the video.
Anyway...
2 things to try:
1. go back to ripkit and see if there is an option to rip your audio/video as a single file (either vob or mpg) onto your hard drive. No reason to demux the two if you're just going to try to mux them back together.
2. change the program you are using. Instead of ripkit (no idea what this is), you should try dvdecrypter (available in the AMVAPP here at the org). This too gives you more options and makes it easier for folks to answer your questions (as a lot of us use this program for our AMV work). I know with this program you can either rip the audio/video files together or separately to suit your needs.

Final Fantasy X can't be ripped with DVD Decrypter, AFAIK. This so-called 'ripkit' is probably FFX2MOV or something similar (I don't really know, as I don't have any desire to edit a Final Fantasy X or X-2 video, but I looked up some type of software for my sister to get the footage from the discs; that was months ago, though).808-buma wrote:2. change the program you are using. Ok.. Sorry for the long time to reply. I was drowning my sorrows in Jak X.
Alright. Yes, I understand that I don't need the sound to make an MV, but
a) I like to keep the clips - with sound - on my computer so that I can enjoy them without having to boot up my PS2 and then (depending on the game) re-fight to get to them, or only be able to access those I've unlocked/bought.
and
b) Sometimes I like to weave certain sentences/words into the mix. Either to add to a scene, to open or to close.. you know.
Regarding the other options:
I have tried Dvdecrypter, as well as a truckload of other programs - mentioned on another thread. All have failed.
I can rip DVDs just fine... But don't really have any desire to. (Irony)
It's the few games I've tried, that foil me again and again. FF X, X-2, Jak and Kingdom Hearts.
Qyot27 is right, I am using the FFX2MOV ripkit. (Which is a simple 'click what files you want from this list, then click 'go' type thing) It certainly works in that it seems able to find and rip the files when all other programs can't... Yet I wonder if it isn't somehow corrupting the files or something. (I wish I knew the construction of the program.. why does it work when all else fails?) I simply can't figure out why the *Image* is so messed up. (I can go without sound, easily enough. Hell, I can use Windows Movie Maker to add it in if I really must...) But I can't make a MV without the movie part.
(Frustrated)
