There are quite a lot of cheap hosting providers these days. https://www.b-one.net/ offers 500 mb of space and unlimited traffic for 1.25 a mont (in euros, about 1.50 in $). They seem like a reliable company.

http://www.canaca.com and http://www.globat.com seem like affordable and reasonable solutions for what we're doing.

I got my own web hosting from http://www.1and1.com back in January of 2004 when they had a limited-time 3-year promotional deal going. As a result...

Nothing except overage charges every month for bandwidth (they give me 5 GB/mo free, and after that it's $1/GB; these days I rarely get a monthly bill above about $5).

But that's just for storing audio, video, and images; all the actual pages of the Aquiline Studios website are hosted by my college, http://www.tcnj.edu ; I get 50 MB of storage space and unmetered bandwidth (I've been hosting at least one video at a time on that space for at least two years now, and the powers-that-be have never come after me). And that is also free.

However, I'll need to find an alternate webhost once I graduate and lose the TCNJ webspace.

All I had to do was upload the files via FTP, nothing complicated. So as long as it took to code the HTML (which Cyanna did for our current layout), plus as long as it took to upload everything.

I don't know and I don't care, since as I said, I'm on the free promotional plan. And I plan to switch to a different host before it expires anyway.

Why would that be such a bad thing? For three years now, I've been under the impression that there's quite a substantial AMV trade on P2P networks. They seem to be rather popular items whenever I share them (mostly other people's, of course), and I usually don't have trouble finding others who are sharing others I haven't seen.

Like I said above, you can always put them on a personal/studio website.
well if I can get the money together to get a personal site, I will deffinately do that o.0 but the hard part is getting the money together o.0 I havent even found the money to donate yet o.0 being a growed up is hard!

ha! I dont like p2p it kills the speed of my computer 0.o but youtube.com seems to have a small semi thriving community o.0 even if the people posting the AMVs dont own the ones they post o.0

To be honest, I was wondering when a company would bring this up... I figured it would happen sooner or later. True, they probably are receiving more money because of this site, but that doesn't mean they don't have the right to address the matter.

As for me, just because they're issued a cease and desist, that's not going to stop me from buying their music (if I like it). This is just my opinion but I think that's kind of silly to go that far. It's not like they said you can't use their songs. period. It's just an order prohibiting videos with certain music from being released on this particular site.

And even if they extend their order to other key sites, that shouldn't stop people from making videos for that music. There are always other methods of sharing your hard work, such as the ones already discussed (getting a personal/studio website, using p2p, yousendit, etc). You could also just enter it into an AMV competition at a con, or even just share it with your anime club (if you're part of one) or just your friends. No matter what, you are certainly going to find some way to share at it. And I'm certain that you'll find people who appreciate it.

As a matter of fact, I find it much more fulfilling to show my friends/family my work and receiving live feedback where I can actively discuss it. But once again, this is all just my opinion. ^_^

I pay $11/month for 9 gigs of space and 50 gigs of bandwidth for the 3 sites I run (including my personal site) I'm probably going to have to increase my bandwidth cause in the past 2 months I've almost reached my limit and had to take down some videos.

Making sites takes no time at all if you know html (or use a program that does everything for you)

The day the hobby cost me money is the day I give it up completely. I mean aside of DVDs, ect, which I've already purchased for other reasons. I'm just not willing to pay to watch videos that are supposed to be by fans for fans without any money making involved.

But yeah, I saw this coming and was talking about it mere weeks ago. I would say "most of us" did, but this is the internet.

So what you are telling me is you dont play video games, watch tv, go to movies, drive, or surf the internet. The last time I looked these things costed money. Unless you are a bum or a leech. So pretty much what that leaves you without paying money is breathing and staring at the walls thats nice and free. :)
