For hosting, I've been using http://www.1and1.com for the last 4 years and have been pretty happy with them.

I've been using Stargate for about 6 years, and it's been reliable and affordable.

For dev tools. The most common are Macromedia's Flash and Dreamweaver. You can download 30 day trials from macromedia.com, even if you don't know how to use HTML, dreamweaver has a wysiwg deisgn mode that's easy to use.

For web graphics you can use Photoshop/Image Ready, or Fireworks.

What is your price range? What kind of solution are you looking for? (Shared hosting, dedicated, virtual dedicated) How much transfer do you need a month? All of these questions need answered before you can kind something just right for you. There are soo many hosts out there that finding/choosing the right one can be quite a task.

i would not want to spend more than 30 bucks a month Im not sure what you mean by dedicated. It would be for hosting videos done by Shining Finger Studios. I have no Idea about how much transfer i would need a month but it seems like at the most for one of our videos AMV Before Halloween gets about 200 downloads a week. I would like to host better quality versions of our videos so I would assume we would need 1-2 GB storage Im not sure how much the actual site would be size wise.

I use http://www.startlogic.com/

I got two years for a very cheap price.... I think it was around 150 dollars or something. The tranfer rate is extremely fast.. I've seen things download at 800kb a sec.

5 gigs of space and 100gb transfer

I'm a fan of http://www.ipowerweb.com/. Reliable hosting and relatively fast downloads, without being overly expensive.

Dedicated means that you are the only site that resides on the server. A lot of times this also means you have full root access to the server and can do whatever you want with it.

The RDS server for example recently upgraded to a self-managed dedicated server. We have full control of the server and can install any application that we want (except an IRC server according to the Acceptable Use Policy of our provider.)

A lot of people that go for a dedicated server typically resell shared hosting to others to make a profit off of it. If you are planning to spend under 30 a month I recommend looking into shared hosting.

If your videos are popular, as some of them appear to be, be sure to find a place with plenty of bandwidth to meet your needs. I remember about a year or so ago I temporarily once hosted Tsukin's video "Bleed the Sky" for him. Between my videos and his single one I nearly went over the 80GB cap on my personal site for that month. Currently RDS uses over 200GB a month. (However we are hosting 9 editors and Euphoria...)

I would talk to Adiamante if you can get a hold of him to see if he is willing to host you. He previously hosted RDS, my personal site, and a bunch of other amv sites on the same server. He has very good prices.

www.powweb.com

I've been using them for like 5 years. 5 GB storage, 300 GB transfer/month, domain included, $7.77 a month!

The only times I've ever had problems with them is when I've gone over my transfer limit. They don't warn you, they just shut you down. But seriously, look at those numbers. I have yet to find a better deal on hosting.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.
