My hatrid of American Pop culture and foreign policy are completely independent of my love for anime...

It all dosn't matter, both the U.S. and Japan will be destroyed by China in about 20 years anyways.

No, i've just been watching one of the largest nations in the world building up a large army, attempting to gain economic footholds in every prosperous country that will let them, and attempting to even buy out American companies. Given the mass slaughter of the Chinese by Japanese in world war 2, and the general dislike of America the country holds, there exists enough evidence to come to this conclusion; no?

Well let us see. (I like this topic...heheh)

First I think WWII is over. This article was from 94 anyway, who the hell cares what some ass thinks.
(Nevermind I am some ass and it pisses me off too.)

Trekky people have been proud of it for years and they go on to other things, like running IBM.

Second animation in the West has been adult before, recall Heavy Metal.

This whole thing picks its examples to target fan service, feminine males, and girly girls.

The article totally ignores the more sophisticated story lines of other anime. Not all Americans are exactly the macho coal miner to start. And personally I miss femininity in American women, I blame the invention of shoulder pads. Equality is great but being condescending is not the same. (Sorry just a trend I've noticed....damn Paris Hilton.)

The dipshit that the wrote the article seems culturally ignorant of both the American youth and Japan. Japan may separate the genders, but sex is much much.....no....infinitely more taboo in the West. In fact sex was not taboo in Japan until Western influence.

Quite frankly I think Americans are just looking for fresh story styles rather than the same tired Leave It to Beaver bullshit.

The face of today’s youth, heros, and idols has changed.

From the rebellious Beatles to Metallic and Disturbed.

Welcome to the Brave New World, perhaps people will soon think for themselves.

As for the Wish it Were Western part, all genres eventually poke fun of themselves, like the movie Scream. Not to mention even Japan has multiple peoples in its borders from tourists to the many Koreans that call it home.

Many of the anime cannot be aimed at America because they were translated so long after they were made. Many come from before anime was popular or really even creeping over to the States.

The whole world is really assimilating, but Japan is rather nationalistic and so is America for that matter. Though truly America should not really have a dominant culture since it is an amalgamation of multiple peoples
.
Otaku don't always consider Japan better, but a refreshing change.

This whole article ends as one big conspiracy straight out of South Park. Newitz or nitwit, I dunno.

Change is scary and some people adapt poorly. The animation is of a higher quality with camera movements etc., the stories are fresh, and the youth of the American nation is different today.

Reeves and Vin Diesel take the place old detective shows, jazz is oust by metal, and Bugs Bunny by Goku. Gee, I see how terrible this could be.

Maybe the Japanese culture is not dominating America so much as America has simply changed.

I like how you put that, but one thing I've noticed is the downgrading of American cartoons. Bugs Bunny was initialy aimed at adults and had a great amount of appeal(still does infact). But when you compare it to new American animation aimed at the adult croud you get shows like Sealab and Spaceghost. Not all adult american cartoons follow this example but when you compair the story lines and quality anime will win hands down every time.
The same can be said for kids cartoons. American kids cartoons have no real depth of story or character development. I watch a lot of animation both american and Japanese and for story, character, and quality the Japanese stuff will almost always come out on top.

true, true. Anime is giving american cartoons a run for their money. So now its war, they sign up to have them on their networks so they can get money. Then they make crappy shows in anime style and its supposed to be a hit. You win some you loose some, i can remeber some anime styled cartoons but they didnt last too long...i cant even remeber their names.
