Hey! I can make some good stuff! Imagine 5 yellow ninjas seeking revenge after their half caucasian half black master was beat up by a 5 year old taikwondo prodigi.......that was a joke, but sometimes cartoons stories can really be stupid to the point of asking why.SuperFusion wrote:I laughed at that. Though not with you.Rurounikeitaro wrote:Doubt the other two but I think IGPX's story is too well written to be made by Americans......wow, I'm really bashing them. If only they'd ask me to make the plots for American cartoons

oh yeah i know, but it was Osamu Tezuka that started it with his kids wit fat eyeballs and Popeye limbs.cholinms wrote:Every one seems to forget that it was an American that pioneered that style, he's pretty famous and goes by the name of Walt Disney. It didn't become the mainstay in Japanese animation until Miyazaki started using it.Super Shanko wrote:well seeing how the basic definition of anime is a term for a style of Japanese comic book and video cartoon animation in which the main characters have large doe-like eyes. then yes, it pretty much is a high quality imitation, but like always, if its good to watch, who the hell cares.

I see it like this, Every nation has its own movements, its own political, its own social and so on. Walt Disney started the movement here, and another started it in Japan. You just cant discount cultural values and heritage in this. For instance, nosebleeds, we wouldnt get that joke because its based off of a old wives tale/rumor. There are aspects of Japanese animation that is distinctly Japanese. While it is very pausible and plausible for artists to be inspired by others, there are some things that no matter what, are distinctly japanese and american.
Just like, if a white male who has hung around black people/males all his life were to act talk and walk the same way as his friends, where to believe that he can completely relate and understand what they go through, he's be wrong for the sheer fact that he is white. (not trying to be racial or anything, this just popped into my head) Its not a bad thing that he has an understanding about somethings, but its not like he knows completely. (unless he grew up in that enviroment) Imitations can be a good thing, people seem to forget that, even though a good imitation isnt common. ITs all art people, some good, some bad.

For once I somewhat agree with you.SuperFusion wrote:What the HELL are you talking about?

Clarify, perhaps?
We live in the age of globalization. To put it bluntly, shit gets around at remarkable speed nowadays. Though there's nothing unique in borrowing aesthetics from another culture in any way. Romans took Greek gods, and later Germanic pants because they thought they were 'cool'; Americans can take anime stylisms all they like.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I was saying that. American style anime will always be imitations. We both have seperate cultures and because of the history thats gone into our seperate cultures, thmes and line styles etc, in animation will be different. Just like if all of a sudden, they decided to drop their manga drawing style for our comic book style, then theyre imitating us. *yawns* It doesnt matter who draws it honestly. I dont care who i get it from, but they do it better anyway.Otohiko wrote:For once I somewhat agree with you.SuperFusion wrote:What the HELL are you talking about?

That movie was excallently done I must agree... but what i was referring to was the process of designing the characters and then sending them to be animated by cheap labor in korea. Most anime is done like this, and two cartoons I know for SURE were done like this from america are the Clerks cartoon, and Invader Zim, but I understand much of the other cartoon series is also made in this fashion.devilmaykickass wrote: I've yet to see anything but one film that was animated in Korea (and it's quite possibly the most beautifully animated movie I've seen).
therefore.
