Stolen One Piece AMVs.

Post by GinnySeta » Sat Dec 03, 2005 7:51 pm

Some of you may remember, I made a video entitled "The Navigator and The Swordsman." It won first place at Anime Next 04's AMV contest. It was released by Kaizoku Fansubs as an extra about a year ago. Unfortunately, due to new circumstances regarding certain songs, it is no longer up on the org, but if someone would like proof that this is my work, I will try to get it out.

The reason I am posting this is because of this (Thanks to Funky from AP for pointing it out):

Someone took my video, and put One Piece music over it...and called it their work. It is NOT their work. It is something that took me an EXTRAORDINARY amount of time, effort, and emotions. It may not be the best, I may have improved since I made it - but it is still mine and I am happy with it. I don't like to see my hard work stolen. If anyone needs proof that this is indeed theft, I will be glad to link them when it is back up for download.

I just wanted to let anyone who might have stumbled across this know the truth, and if anyone has any ideas on how I could put a stop to this, please share. One Piece AMV makers, beware, they are apparently doing this to other One Piece amvs as well. I plan on writing a response to the "creator" when I am not half dead after an 8 hour shift at work and starving. Thanks everyone.

If it were posted here at this site, someone would gladly take care of it for you. On the internet at large though, there isn't really anything that you can do. The youtube site lets you post comments on videos though, so you can at least post the truth on the comments there.

I used to be one of the people that would get upset when I heard of such a thing being done to another editor. I'm not sure what has changed me but now I don't really care all that much. If someone tried passing off one of my videos as their own, I'd just laugh at them and move on.

I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to thinking like this as it is still a sensitive subject for a lot of editors...

Well, apparently YouTube got wind of it or the guy took it down voluntarily. Either way, good riddance. What a douchebag.

I'm not ZOMGZORZ U STOLE MY VIDEO OH NOEZ INTARNETZ!!! about it, but I DO want to make it clear to the amv community that this person isn't using his own work, and it is my work he is using. I personally like to be aware of plagiarism going on in any of communities I'm a part of - be it amvs, fan fiction, or even cosplay (it happens.)

I actually did laugh when I saw it - it was so bad. If you're going to rip off someone, at least do it well.

Thankfully, it seems to be taken care of now. I will keep my eye on it. Thank you muchly!
