Gay marriage and the term anime are nowhere near the same level of importance. The defintion of a word is nothing when compared to a course of action that is shunned by religion.Bardiel13 wrote:Call me a conservative, but as they call gay marriage a civil union, I shall call American Anime "Anime-ish styled cartoon." Fair enough?

It's got nothing to do with importance. It was just an example of what people are referring to certain things that can be called what it was originally intended to be called. Talk about blown out of proportion ... And who knows... maybe I shun Trying-to-be-anime American cartoons...

Webmaster fails. It's all about a place called www.Dictionary.com where they actually know what the hell they're talking about. A place that knows that an etymology is not a sentence. Unlike 'webmaster'.EmilLang1000 wrote:SuperFusion wrote:I didn't really care until older gohan tried to prove something that just was not. Now, now, older_gohan, shame on you! Okay, I try to stay neutral here, Superfusion, but you really leave me no choice.
First of all, Dictionary.com IS pretty accurate; however, it is, like most things on the internet, prone to being incorrect from time to time.
Secondly, it's not WebMASTER, thank you; it's WebSTER, as in WEBSTER'S NEW WORLD COLLEGIATE DICTIONARY, used by EVERY university, college, and lower education facility in the United States, and most in Canada, as THE reference source most trusted concerning the English language. The only more reputable source would be the Oxford dictionary, which contains literally EVERY word, both proper and slang, in the english language (this means ALL words spoken in ALL English-speaking countries). However, Webster's is considered just a reliable a source as the Oxford dictionary.
I'm afraid older-gohan wins out in a debate over the definition for actually citing a widely published and reputable source, whereas you seem to have simply come up with your own definition. Now please stop the flame-baiting.

Is this fact or are you just pulling things out of your ass? I haven't seen that book in the three schools I've been to.EmilLang1000 wrote: as in WEBSTER'S NEW WORLD COLLEGIATE DICTIONARY, used by EVERY university, college, and lower education facility in the United States
Webster.com doesn't even have the word "Japanimation". Why would I be willing to trust a site on its anime defintion if it doesn't even have its alternate name?EmilLang1000 wrote:I'm afraid older-gohan wins out in a debate over the definition for actually citing a widely published and reputable source, whereas you seem to have simply come up with your own definition.
