For some good animes to view.

Now and Then, Here and There: This is a dark look into evil human nature and a story of survival. The heartless treatment of people by the mad ruler and his people is hard to take.

Saikano: I haven't seen this but my son told me he watched it right after Now and then, Here and There and it really beat up his emotions.

Gunslinger girl: Another one that is hard on our morals, preteen girls turned into cyborg assassins, something sick and wrong about that. Very good stories of the adult-child relations.

Tokyo Godfathers: A good one for some humor in a mature and different setting. Three homeless people, a drunk, a homosexual, and a young lady, find a baby in the trash on Christmas eve. Funny and heartwarming.

Memories, and Petshop of Horrors: are both single discs with several stories, both worth watching.

Voices of a Distant Star, and The Place Promised in our Early Days: both are romantic stories, both are excellent short animes.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

There you go again with your gay generalizations.
Do you know what generalize means? Because this isn't the first time I've seen you use the word incorrectly. He was rather specific. No, I take that back. Not "rather," he WAS specific. He said RahXephon sucked, not all anime sucked. Use words you understand, please.

Mature and serious? I think you'd like Akira.

Generalize
intransitive verb make sweeping statement: to state a supposed general truth about something on the basis of limited or incomplete evidence.

BINGO! Plus I looked at LenWidleheyt post wrong.. I thought he was saying it's worth checking out.. and even so, I don't think I used it wrong. I don't know how much RahXephon he has seen but generally for a long series when people say it sucks such as Naruto or Inuyasha.. they haven't seen much of it to jump to a conclusion on how good/bad that series is. Well that's from my experience anyways.

Please give me all the examples I used the word wrong please I would like to know. Your just an ass always looking for trouble.. and if you can't find any, you create it.. simple fact.

Actualy the main reason I hate it is because its a melodrama that takes itself so seriosly that the stupid and unbelievable actions of the characters become anoying rather than something fun to laugh at. Oh and yes it also does blatantly copy eva, but thats a minor anoyance compared to its major flaw.

Where does LenWidleheyt come into this? You quoted Bananaboat and said he was a making a gay generalization when he was being specific. "General" is anything not specific. See how he said "RahXephon sucks"? Yeah. That's specific. If he said "all anime sucks," then yeah, it would've been a general statement. Learn the vocabulary you use. kthx

Berserk-- about as mature as it comes, and REALLY serious. And also check out Blood+

And people, don't make this a flame war, try to stay on topic and not hate your fellow Geek/Otaku

Thanks for the great recommendation, keep em comming!

Just to clear something out, i got the ranxephon box set, and despite it copying Eva, just like bum said, i didnt like it for that reason at all.
I though that it was trying to be smart, and ended up being just so unsophisticated. Unmemorable characters, and events. Not too much substance for me, which surprised me becouse i love the genere.

I recently finished Gantz. It had it's ups and downs, but if you want serious and dark and violent and all that good fun, you probably want that. You also might want it if you want an ending that completely leaves you hanging and just BEGS you to buy the manga to find out what really happens. *sigh*

I would try Texhnolyze.
Wonderful animation but the story tends to be a bit confusing if you don't pay attention.

Personally, I liked RahXephon.
Eavngelion picks its characters brains and examines the human psyche. That being said, RahXephon is more or less a love story. If you aren't a big fan of love stories then chances are you won't like RahXephon. Xephon does a little mind picking itself but not to the same extent as Eva. While both stories share similar themes, you can't say that RahXephon is an Eva ripoff because they are both completely different stories trying accomplish different points.
If Xephon was an Eva rip off then you Eva zealots would probably have less to complain about. It would have more things in common with Eva and share some of the elements that made Eva great.
