Before you jump down my throat telling me to check other guides and topics, you should know that I have ripped fmv's from many other ps and ps2 games many times over. So I have a good idea of what I'm supposed to be doing. Here's the one thing that sets my topic apart from the others and the one variable that's apparently got me stumped.
Unlike all the other times where I've ripped .str files from games I actually own, I'm trying to rip and convert .str files from an iso image of a psx game instead. While I thought this would be easy, it's actually incredibly tough. Nothing seems to work for some reason.
To start, since the movies are in an iso file I can't simply begin with psxMC because apparently psxMC only scans for .str's in your cd drive. So I was forced to start off using Iso Buster instead in order to locate and extract the .str files myself.
After locating where the movies where I tried to extract the files to my desktop but here's the first complication. I'd get the following error message;
"sector 27680 could'nt be read
Error: 05/64/01"
So after checking off the "ignore all" option box and clicking the ignore button, Iso buster proceeds to extract the .str files but with one obvious problem. After comparing the original size of the file with that of the extracted .str files, I could see the size of the file was a little bit smaller than the original file size that Iso buster displayed. Which means Iso Buster ignored an entire section of the .str file.
Now if I take this extracted .str file and try to load it into psxMC or MP I get the following message.
"Plug in which can process a file 'C:\Documents and Settings\(my name)\Desktop\(name of file).STR' was undetectable.
wtf?
Since when did this program ever have problems reading .str files? This is when I was sure Iso Buster was to blame. Not psxmc.
So my next idea was to just try and load the entire iso file into psxmc (knowing it wouldn't work). And as expected, I got the same message.
So with all that said and done could someone tell me how to rip and convert cut scenes and fmv's from iso files? I'm pretty sure Iso Buster is all I need but it's being a major pain to me. It can't seem to extract the files I want without the program omitting sectors or adding in extra data to the file.
Is it even possible to rip and convert .str files from an iso image? I know they can't be corrupted because I can watch the movie files just fine if I play the game on my emulator.
Not that this matters, but the games i'm using are the psx version of MegaMan X3 and MegaMan X4.
